as per Montmorillon cityhall (FB post)
google translation
FLOOD OF THE GARTEMPE river
La Gartempe got out of bed last night.
The river is currently at 3m40 (in comparison, we are at a level similar to the flood of March 2006, and well above 2016 when the water level reached 2m96).
The city center is flooded.
Water now appears in BD Gambetta, all the ground floors are to be moved to the low points.
Be careful, Vigicrues announces the continuation of the flood.
At 3.50 m, the Strasbourg Boulevard will have its feet in the water, more particularly the parking lot on Rue de la Marne and the public garden at Square Médina Del Campo.
The decline should take place around 1 p.m.
Be careful, warn vulnerable people who are affected by this flood.
The town of Montmorillon activated its crisis unit last night. The municipal police came at 3:30 a.m. to warn the residents concerned using a megaphone. Citizens are accommodated at the St Nicolas gymnasium.
The teams are on alert and are closely monitoring the evolution of the flood. In case of emergency or necessity, you can contact the town hall on 05 49 91 13 99.
As a reminder, the water rose to 4m95 in 1982 (city landmarks on buildings).

Hi all,
We have been keeping our grass down with a scythe, but with spring on the horizon, we are thinking a second hand petrol mower would save us a lot of time.
I have been trying to search on Lebencoin but when I put La Trimouille in the location box (screen grab below), it is still showing me mowers (and other things) from all over the place - can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

Morning all
We are hopefully signing Compromis for a property in Montmorillon. Forth house now so fingers crossed.
We have just moved from Spain lol and finding the weather quite a challenge. We have always liked Montmorillon so looking forward to moving.
Looking at forum to check out Montmorillon , will be searching French lessons etc. At present renting over the border in 87 , so our pets registeted here and using vets Magnac Lavsl , same with doctors. We understand can be difficult registering ,any Doctors recommended and are they taking on new patients ?
Meanwhile i am looking for house insurance ,as new to France prefer somewhere we can walk in
If any queries and english speaking. Any suggestions welcome.
Does anyone know where I could get a watch repaired locally ? I only rarely used it ( like every one I carry a mobile phone ),
but I would like to pass it on in a working condition - it's over 50 years old.
I have an old ,self propelled lawn mower. The engine is still excellent ( Briggs & Stratton) , but one side of deck is rusting away.
Does anyone know where I could get it welded at sensible price , before I go buy a new one ?
Some considerable time ago Brian gave me some very helpful information and asked me to write about my experience of moving from Orange to SOSH for our landline and internet broadband.
So first of all an apology it was a considerable time ago - I will blame the intervening year on wanting to test the swap over for issues and problems but truthfully, laziness was involved somewhere!
The salient point is that it was a painless swap over, and a year later, there have been no problems whatsoever. The beauty of the swap is that SOSH is a division/company under the Orange umbrella and is significantly cheaper for virtually the same service.
I was able to log onto the SOSH website with my Orange credentials and begin the swap over online. I was able to pick a date and time for the swap over so that was helpful. I did have to make use of an online translation app a couple of times but it was all relatively simple. All the paperwork was sent by email rather than needing to visit any Orange Boutiques. The swap over meant we lost the internet and the phone for about one hour but that was to be expected. The cost in November 2022 was then €19.99 for a copper line Internet and €29.99 for their fibre broadband. There
So a year later, some thoughts - I* wish I had done it sooner! Swapping in October 2022 saved us €17 immediately from what we were paying Orange and we have not had any problems. I had ticked the box on the application to say that I wanted the monthly payments to come from the same bank account and there wasn't even a hiccup there. The only downside is that SOSH are totally online and there are no shops/boutiques or an English-speaking helpline but that wasn't been an issue for us. We also had to send back the TV that we never used and Orange provided a postage paid label for that
There has been a price rise (obviously!) and we now pay €20,99 per month which is still very cheap compared to Orange. It also gives us unlimited calls to landlines in mainland France and to landlines in over over 100 destinations including Europe, USA, Canada, Morocco, Turkey, Morocco, Turkey and China.
A friend of ours has kindly offered to do our timber framing calculations for the new roof on our barn, however, he says he needs the local regulations???
Does anyone know where I might find these for our area - or even where I might start in terms of getting them?
Thanks all
Kit
PS: an extra thanks to the conveners of this forum - it is a real life saver, and nice to feel part of something, especially in these early days

I visited the Christmas Market in Place Marechal Leclerc this afternoon.
It really does not look very inviting, being entirely enclosed by 2m high barriers with one entry and exit point at the southeast corner of the square - manned by (fairly low grade) security guards who give you a grilling about what you have on your person. Some people were actually being searched.
Once inside, there was a good range of stalls selling a wide variety of handmade crafts - including a young woman who had brought along her lathe and was making bowls etc and explaining the process - it made me wish I'd brought mine along!
Light refreshments were available and it was altogether enjoyable. Just a shame about the prison camp appearance...

Hi, all! I couldn't find a thread, to post this on, I hope it's okay to do it, here. We are looking to pet/house-sit; having found ourselves without heating, for a few weeks. We live in MM, but are willing to travel. We are both hard-working, meticulous, and trustworthy, and are available after next week. Thanks so much for reading! Joanie.
We recently had a Linky meter installed by SRD acting on behalf of Soregies. The installer left a very nice set of information including details of how to access the meter remotely. Excellent I thought! No more need to read the meter and send in readings.
However, I have failed to get registered on the Linkyparsrd site as apparently my Linky meter isn't talking to my LinkyparSRD account! I have emailed Soregies and am awaiting a reply. Did anyone else have the same problem, please? The error message reads .... "Erreur The PDL ne depose pas d'un compeurLinky communicant!

Hi - me again!
I have noticed a few times on this forum the suggestion to go back to the notaire.
I dont think i realised that we could access the Notaire after the legalities of the house purchase had taken place.
I have vague memories of our estate agent telling us to send an IBAN to them in case we had a refund on the payments (we didn't do this - is it too late?)
And more generally, do we just drop in, ask for an appointment - how does it work?

We have some items of furniture and some bits and bobs to give away for free. Does anyone know of any local charities who pick up please? We don't have a van so can't drop off a corner sofa and bedroom furniture etc. Thank you.
