  Decorative Stones/ Gravel
Posted by: Jane - Wed-09-08-2023, 12:21 PM - Replies (3)

Me again, sorry for all of the questions. Has anyone any recommendations where to buy 1 or 2 tonnes of decorative gravel/ stones for the front garden? We just went to Big Mat in Montmorillon and they wanted to charge 157 euros for a 1 tonne bag, including delivery. The delivery price was the off putting bit. It was 78 euros for that and we’re only down the road in La Trimouille.

  Exterior Paint

Hi all, Does anyone have any recommendations for the best place you’ve found that sells exterior masonry paint please? I seem to spend most days at Mr Bricolage at the moment, but they can be a bit expensive for some things, so just wondering if anyone has found anywhere they recommend. Thank you

I'm thinking of organising a French/English discussion group...
Posted by: Brian - Thu-03-08-2023, 11:57 AM - Replies (13)

I live in Adriers, which has a generous smattering of English speaking natives, as well as a lot of French people who would like to improve their English.

I think a weekly discussion group - ideally 50:50 French: English - in which we held bilingual conversations about current topics of our own choice could be popular. Each session would be free, but with coffee, tea, petits patisseries available for a nomimal charge

I've put together a presentation which I plan to take to the Mairie at the end of August (when they're all back from holiday!) but in the meantime I thought I'd take a sounding to see if anyone here would be interested in coming along. Day of the week to be decided.

Let me know what you think.

  Private Health Insurance Help

We've finally moved here to France and need to get private health insurance sorted before we are able to apply for our carte vitale. We have had some absolutely ridiculous quotes online and I'm going spare trying to find a company that's not going to cost an arm and a leg. Has anyone got any recommendations please? Thanks in advance

  Rubbish bils

Anyone else had their rubbish bills showing collections for black bins that they haven’t made ?
Our schedule shows 6 pickups when we have in fact only put the bins out 5 times with rubbish in them (we have lockable bins in the main road)
Also some of the dates are wrong - I am requesting a revised schedule but wondered if I was alone !

With the impending deregulation of the energy market has anybody managed to navigate the comparison sites and find it easy  or find the whole process a nightmare.

  Roof tiles
Posted by: Kit - Sat-25-03-2023, 19:31 PM - Replies (1)

Hello again,

We are now coming to terms with the fact that we will probably have to replace at least 2/3 of our roof tiles (they are very fragile), but have also found out that French 'building materials' are quite expensive.  I am wondering if anyone has imported tiles from say, Spain or Poland?

We are looking for the flat terracotta tiles

Thanks

  Walking Maps

Hi,

We are back in La Trimouille next week for a couple of weeks and weather permitting we would like to take some walks around our local area.

It would be great to buy some maps (similar to Ordinance Survey) and wondered where we might buy these and if there is a type (scale/detail etc) that would be better for this sort of thing.

Thanks

  Taxe D'habitation
Posted by: scooby - Tue-14-03-2023, 22:37 PM - Replies (9)

Hi all

Deep breath!!

Been trying to find out more info about how we can declare the necessary for the Taxe D'Habitation which we now must do (we believe)

We have a place near Lathus and use it as a holiday home. We're reading that as second home owners, we must declare this but appear to be going around in circles trying to set up a personal space on the impots website.

Has anyone else had a successful journey on this - we've not had a personal space on Impots.gouv before as we've never had to declare anything and only used the site to settle property tax bills. We filled out what we thought was the right form, but had an email back directing us to our local office (which we must visit in person as we don't have a personal space on Impots..... Angry )

Any pointers gratefully received Confused Confused Thumb Rules Rules

Thanks everyone

  Help please! Lift needed
Posted by: Brian - Fri-03-03-2023, 11:23 AM - Replies (2)

I hope someone can help. I am due to collect a new car on Monday 6th March, which means I'll be driving to Montmorillon station on Monday to get a train to Bordeaux to collect the 'new' (ie old, second-hand) one.

That means I'll have a car stuck at Montmorillon station with no means to retrieve it other than a taxi which costs 80€ for the 15km journey.

Ideally, I'd like to collect my parked car on March 7. 8. 9. 10, 11 or 12 (Tuesday - Sunday).

What I need is a kind person (who is already planning to drive through Adriers to Montmorilon) who'd be prepared to pick me up and offer me a lift. I'd be happy to contribute to the petrol, diesel, or Merlot fund as preferred!
I'm based just off the D729, roughly halfway between Adriers and Moulismes.

Thanks in advance.

  planting fruit trees?
Posted by: Kit - Thu-02-03-2023, 09:44 AM - Replies (7)

Hello,

We are hoping to plant our garden with a variety of fruit (and possibly nut) trees and bushes, plus a vegetable plot.

Are there any things that we can grow here that we wouldn't be able to grow in South Wales (UK)?

Where is a good place to buy plants and trees near La Trimouille?

Thanks

  Timber Yards?
Posted by: Kit - Thu-02-02-2023, 21:30 PM - Replies (2)

Hi all,

We are heading back to La Trimiouille in March (and then again in April) and will be looking to replace one of the purlins in our (small) barn.

Are there any timber yards in the area, and would this be the most cost-effective way to buy beams for the roof?

We will also need to replace some of the tiles, second hand or new, and again, any recommendations on buying these?

Thanks

Kit

  Roofer needed

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know or could recommend a good roofer as we need a new roof because most of the tiles have been eaten by moss.

This is our holiday home but we have good friends in the village ( Saulge) who help us out but trying to get a tradesman is proving a task in itself.

Thank you in advance

Regards Jack.

OBD reader - does anyone have one?
Posted by: Brian - Sat-12-11-2022, 17:01 PM - Replies (3)

I'm in need of a bit of assistance please.

The engine management warning light has illuminated in my car. It's probably indicating a trivial fault, but the only way to be sure is to plug a reader into the diagnostic port. Does anyone have one that they'd let me use? I could drive to wherever you are, plug it in, read the code and go. You'll hardly know I was there...

I'd really appreciate any assistance!

Thanks,
Brian

  Soregies and SRD???
Posted by: Brian - Wed-09-11-2022, 09:22 AM - Replies (3)

Good day all,

I'm a bit baffled. Our electricity has always been supplied by Soregies. I can access my account via soregies.fr and send them my readings, view my contract details and bills, and make payment.

I recently had a Linky meter installed, having been given advance warning by Soregies. It appears that there is link between Soregies and a company called SRD Energies who actually fit and (I presume) manage the Linky meters. I set up an account at LinkyparSRD.fr and was able to see my daily consumption as re[ported by the Linky.

But... the daily readings stopped 3 days ago (last report 6th November), with the website reporting 'no data available'. As a bill is due around now, I looked on the Soregies website, where I was informed that I no longer have an electricity contract with Soregies. That's news to me as everything still appears to be working!

Has anyone else experienced this? Have Soregies merged with SRD? It seems very strange that there has been no communication about this by post, email or within the relevant websites. I'd love to hear about anyone else's experience.

Brian
