Hi. Just wanted to share our experience of trying to get broadband out in the countryside. I checked it out before moving to our 15 year vacant house on a website. The website said simply that we were too far from the lines to get normal broadband and that we would need satelite broadband. After much comparing in the UK we got here with a rough idea of prices. A company called ozone put a flyer through our door at a competitive price. I asked at the Marie if it was a known company and they said it was. With three teenagers in the house we went for the unlimited broadband, telephone (voip) with uk calls included and tv. This was in June 2013. After much help badgering the company from neighbours we finally got broadband in the November. As it stands now in February, we still have no phone (they say it was an installation error) and no tv. But they are taking 79€ a month from the bank.
We took advice two weeks ago from Isobel at continental horizons, and now know the only reason we couldn't have broadband was that they couldn't find a phone number for the old connection. By Isobel calling free.fr. and giving the name of the property along the road from us they could find the old cable and we shall be getting broadband, phone and tv for 33€ a month. I expected to get burnt a little when moving to a new country but I don't know what I would have done if a hadn't found Isobel as I couldn't see any alternatives.
To sum up.if like us your buying a bit of a wreck or previous holiday home, if there is an old phone line, however long ago it was in use it is possible that you can get internet via the normal route, saving huge amounts of time, money and heartache. A little advice at the start will save you in every way. Also don't touch ozone with a barge pole.

We are currently in Vietnam and access to the around Montmorillon site is often blocked by the server ( as we are in a dodgy location to be accessing the site?)
A useful (free) app us "open door" which is available for iPhones etc and possibly others,. We have been able to connect using this without getting the "error 403 message " that we get if trying to connect otherwise.
May not be very useful to many others but handy if your in parts of Asia etc.
There were various other VPNs etc that we tried which all worked well but they were nearly all trial versions of paid apps.
Open door seems to be permanently a free one

We have had a few of you forgetting your log-in details and getting locked out for 15 minutes before being able to try again, however when you do try again you will get faced with one of those annoying Captcha's.
We know you don't like them or getting locked out, but they are in place to protect your account from getting hacked. You get 5 attempts to log-in with your correct log-in details, then you will get locked out and have to fill in the Captcha.
You may also get one if you follow the instructions in this thread Lost Password/Username and again it is in place to protect you.
We hate them as much as you, but without some security measures in place the forum could end up full of spam. And if it's your account that got hacked it would look like it was you that was doing the spamming, which would lead to your account being removed.
So if you want to avoid seeing the Captcha please follow these tips and save yourself the frustration.
Don't forget your password.
Most Browsers and computers have a way of remembering your password.
Don't go past 4 failed log-in attempts.
If all else fails and you do get the Captcha and can't complete it, please get in touch by answering an Email you have received by Around Montmorillon. Don't use the Contact Us button at the foot of the home page as it will give you a Captcha.
We hope that helps, and please remember it is in place to protect you and keep Around Montmorillon free off spam.
*We may not reply to your contact immediately, but will get back to you as soon as possible.

Yet more burglaries in Montmorillon.
Le restaurant l'Auberg'in has been burgled twice between Sunday and Tuesday. On Sunday evening / Monday morning intruders broke into the cellar and stole bottles of Champagne, Burgundy, Whiskey, Liqueurs and fine spirits.
The door was fixed and a new lock added, but thieves returned on Monday evening / Tuesday morning and stole many bottles of wine, fruit juice, beer, soda and even a bag of coffee.
The owner estimated the damage and loss at around €3000

I've just made it easier and neater to post internal forum links.
#1: This one is for adding a link to another thread in your post.
Add the code below to your post but change *** for the tid number. you will find this either by looking at the URL in your browser it will look like this: https://aroundmontmorillon.com/showthread.php?tid=121 or some of you can find it by hovering your mouse over the thread title.
So to add a link to "Welcome Guest" you would remove *** and put 121 (which is the tid) using the code below in your post.
Code:
[thread=***]
You should see this in your post.
Code:
[thread=121]
When you push "Post Thread" it will show like this. Welcome Guest
#2 This will add a link to a post in another thread.
This time you are looking for the pid number and adding it to the code below. The pid number can be found by clicking on the right of a post in a thread or hovering over the number. it looks like this: https://aroundmontmorillon.com/showthrea...427#pid427
So to go to post number 4 in the above thread you would add 427 to the code below.
Code:
[post=***]
So you would see this in your post.
Code:
[post=427]
Click "Post Thread" and it will show like this. [Invalid Post ID]

Has anyone ever moved Asparagus? We have 4 plants around 8 years old, and 10 more at two years old.
The two year old ones only went in the ground last year as we grew them from seed, so I'm thinking they should be fine to gently tease them out from the ground and move them.
The 8 year old ones though I would imagine would be more difficult to get up without damaging the roots, but I would like to take them if possible as they taste fantastic and give a large crop for around 3 months or more.
I also wondered if it's possible to just shove a spade through them to split them up so you get more plants.

I was asking on the old forum about Fresh Fish, and thought I would start again on here.
After the closing of the Fresh Fish shop in Montmorillon I cant find any decent fish near by, we did get a nice whole fresh salmon from SuperU just before Xmas but their fish doesn't seem so fresh as it did when they were HyperU and they don't always have much choice.
I've just about given up on Leclerc in Montmorillon as the quality is poor, yet yesterday we stopped off at Leclerc in Chauvigny and they had some lovely Trout.
The guy on the Montmorillon market has some good fresh fish, but it's not convenient for us.
So if anyone does know of a Fresh Fish van, shop, or stall near to the Lathus area please let me know.

Chimney sweeping do you do your own, or do you get a professional to do it ?
We always used to do it ourselves in our old house, but we will soon be moving and the French sellers were telling us to be careful as your insurance is not valid if you don't have a certificate from a professional.
Any thoughts on this, and if you do use a Pro can you recommend one and what does it cost?
Hello again and thanks for your assistance so far.
As France will be our new home we are trying
To find out where and when we should register as
New residents and what paperwork we need.
We are both dual citizens of UK and Australia.
France is where we hope to spend most of our time.
We own a small property in montmorillon
and also want to register to pay tax there, although
we won't really have much income to declare.
This then crosses over to the health system
and how long it takes us to be apart of the
French system, we think it's five years.
Also suggestions on health insurance.
I guess you have all been through this minefield
and apologise for our boring questions
Thanks Rosie and Huw

We are currently living in Vietnam, but both are dual British Australian citizens.
We spent only a very short time in Montmorillon, so lots to find out and learn about, but very much looking forward to a new adventure.

Went down to Bellac yesterday and whilst prodding around in Carrefour I spotted some Crumpets at the bread section. Having not had crumpets for about 8 years I thought what a find, it was buy one and get one free. There were two packets left, so in the trolley they went.
Had them for breakfast this morning and thought "what was all the fuss about". Don't get me wrong they tasted good, but they just didn't give me the kick I was expecting. I suppose it's a matter of not having them for so long your tastes change and things maybe weren't as good as you thought they were in the first place.
Having said that the Maynards Wine Gums were nice.
