Posted by: YOYO - Tue-11-06-2013, 20:52 PM - Replies (3)

Hello my name is YOYO and I'm employed as a forum bot. My job is to build the website, make a few posts to get it working, and keep an eye on the place. I won't be bothering you to much and you have nothing to fear from me, I just lurk around in the background waiting for the bad guys to turn up.

I hope you enjoy the new Around Montmorillon Forum and it goes from strength to strength, but now it's time for me to sign off and pass the running over to the moderators.

Information Possibly related threads
Posted by: YOYO - Tue-11-06-2013, 19:54 PM - No Replies

When you are reading a thread you may spot "Possibly Related Threads" after the last post. Once the forum gets bigger with more threads, it will show you threads that may be related to the one you are reading.

So if you are reading a thread about Books it should show you other threads that have the title of Books. It may take a while to get it going but it's a handy addition.

OK you want to sell your holiday home and no matter how well you have described it in your for sale thread, it just doesn't come across how nice it looks!

Lets add a photo.
First you will need to host your photo somewhere so you can get a URL (see below if you don't know how to do this)

  • Start a new thread as normal
  • Type in your text
  • Click the little photo image box 6th from the right
  • Put the URL of your image
  • Click OK
  • You will now see your image URL between to IMG Tags
  • Click "Preview Post" and if you're happy click post thread

RESULT: A nice photo of your holiday home. (Click the image to see it full size)

Hosting an image and getting the URL: (if you know how to do this skip this part)

Do a Google search for "Free Image Hosting" there are lots of them, it costs you nothing and some are more easier to use than others. For this demo we will use https://postimage.org
  • Go to postimage.org
  • Click the "Browse" button
  • A window pops up from your computer usually where your images are.
  • Find your image and double click it
  • You can leave the other options as they are and click "Upload It"
  • Once the file is uploaded scroll down and copy where it says "Direct Link"
  • Paste that link in the little image box we mentioned above

RESULT
[Image: pond.jpg]

*Please note images are not shown on the forum at their full size, you need to click them to see full size.

Want more for your holiday home advertisement? See next post in this thread.

Information Disallowed registration ?
Posted by: YOYO - Tue-11-06-2013, 12:20 PM - No Replies

If you are trying to register for membership and you get the following message.

Quote:Your details match those of a known spammer, therefore you have been disallowed registration.

All new registrations have to go through a Stopforumspam.com check. there is nothing we can do for you from this side, and you will need to contact them directly. here is a statement from their website:
Quote:I'm listed on your site but I'm not a spammer
Firstly, its not an accusation of anything. A lot of the information that is listed is gathered from "honeypots" setup to trap spammers. Being listed on the site doesn't mean you have been sending spam. The IP address that you have, mightve been inherited from someone that spammed, someone may have just used your email address or even that you have downloaded a virus or trojan. If you use the removal page and be polite, then we can figure out what has happened and get it fixed.

For more information please see www.stopforumspam.com/faq

We also check each registration with Project Honey Pot If your IP is listed you are likely to get banned. You should take it up with them or your IP provider.

We don't want to stop genuine people from joining Around Montmorillon but we have had to take this action to protect our members. On occasions it could happen that you share your IP with registered spammers, this is unfortunate. and again you should talk to your provider. As a last resort if you have tried all of the above and still feel there is no reason for you not to be a member please contact us and we will see what we can do for you.

Thank You.

Information Notification of new threads
Posted by: YOYO - Tue-11-06-2013, 11:38 AM - No Replies

You may not have time to visit the forum to see if there are any new threads, but you can get an email if someone starts a new thread in a section you are interested in.

Lets say you always want to know if anyone starts a new thread in Introductions so you can pop in and say hello.
Go to that board and just under the New Thread button you will see "Subscribe to this forum" click that, and you will get an email if a new thread is started in Introductions.

Note: you can subscribe to as many forums as you wish, but you will only get notified if you have "Instant email notification" turned on in your UserCP options.

So now you can keep a check on your favourite boards via email.

Information Avatar / Photo in your profile
Posted by: YOYO - Tue-11-06-2013, 11:22 AM - No Replies

Want to be different to everyone else and have an Avatar (Photo in your profile and posts ?)

Click "User CP" in the green bar just below the main menu, then Under your profile on the left click "Change Avatar"

You can choose one of the default Avatars, or load your own. A Google search for "Avatars For Forums" should find you something. or you can use your own photo, If using your own photo this website is handy https://shrinkpictures.com maximum avatar size 100x100 pixels and 50 KB

You have 2 options to add your avatar the first option is to download from your computer. Click the "Browse" button and choose an image from your computer. The second option is to link to an off site avatar by pasting the URL. I would recommend you save your avatar to your computer and use option 1 because if you use option 2 the avatar may be removed by the people that host it or they could change the avatar to something else.

Still not sure ask away, we would rather you have an avatar as it makes you different.
