Hi 

I am Michelle, along with my husband Craig (he's also joined this group) are just going through the process of buying a lovely little bungalow in a small village called La Gelie.
We are in the very early stages of the process just waiting on our Compromis de Vente, due to Covid we have bought the house through emails and video links, so have no idea of the area other than the views, the peace and tranquility this looks to have.
I can't wait to be able to travel over and turn this into our beautiful little holiday home for us and our family to visit.
It mat seem a little too soon to be joining this group, however I am a planner so do like to have lots of information prior to embarking on any journey, so hopefully I can pick your brains over the next few weeks (before we visit the Notaire) to find the best place to shop for groceries, and DIY materials around the area.

I think you've chosen a great place to live. The Brenne National Park is very beautiful and right on your doorstep, and there are lots of very pretty villages nearby.

If any of us can help with local information or the situation on the ground relating to Covid, residence permits, driving licences, healthcare etc please ask. If someone here doesn't know the answer immediately, I'm sure someone else will be able to point you in the right direction very quickly.

I hope your purchase proceeds quickly and smoothly and that you are able to come to France very soon.

I am currently working out the customs situation for transporting furniture, as this is a 2nd home rather than a mian home I know there will be taxes to pay. Do you know of a declaration form I can obtain?

I am currently working out the customs situation for transporting furniture, as this is a 2nd home rather than a main home I know there will be taxes to pay. Do you know of a declaration form I can obtain?

I know two people who have made the move since Brexit. They considered doing the move themselves, but eventually decided the bureaucracy was too uncertain and too involved, so hired a professional moving company and agent to look after the paperwork and transport. The moves happened without a problem so it looks as if the additional costs were worth it.

One suggestion is that you shouldn't overlook selling some furniture in the UK and buying replacements here in France. There are many shops (dépôts de vente or brocantes) specialising in secind hand goods. The French don't seem keen on old furniture so there are many bargains to be had. We've furnished our house mainly with furniture from 1860-1940. A large oak buffet/sideboard was 50€, our 2.75m oak dining table was 30€, a 2m marble-topped work table was €60.

Fred's suggestion about starting a new thread was a good one. In fact I've started one here to try to stimulate some discussion.

But please start your own if you wish!

By the way, if you need any photos to show to craftsmen if you're considering any renovations, I could pop over and take external shots if that would help.

Thank you so much for your information, we are only going to be transporting a few items as we have decided to buy the majority out there when we get there, the brocantes really interest me not heard of the depots de vente so appreciate your suggestions.

I'm hoping there won't be too much work to do but will find out when we eventually get to see the property in the flesh.
