Better than the lump of portabello mushroom that many UK restaurants now pass off as a vegetarian burger!

They have a choice of (I think 2) set menus, but also offer a set vegetarian meal, which remains the best I have ever eaten. Faultless service and it's a bargain at €25 per person.

We've stayed in the Hotel De France a few times, when we were in the process of buying houses. Thoroughly recommend a stay there. However, apart from breakfast, we never actually ate there.

Great suggestions, Admiral. La Voulzie is one of my all time favorite spots. I also recommend this place as a must try.

Hi Sybert, good to see you posting again. Do you have any other favourites that you recommend?

We'd certainly agree that Le Lucullus is a must visit restaurant.

The Grille de Gartempe in Montmorillon as Admiral mentioned serves grilled meat, chips and salad - basic and cheap but lovely by the river and you can take along your dog. Music nights are rather LOUD!

Last year we tried L'Evan & Sense a Creole restaurant at Moulisme - it was excellent and you can have chillies on the side for added heat.
Also, Au Fil de la Benaize at St Hilaire Sur Benaize, lovely set menu, but probably not much on offer for the vegetarians.

Oh and the place in Chaillac is nice, we had pizza, not sure how extensive the menu is there but it's nice to sit out in the square.

Don't think we've ever tried Pizza Bella - we'll give it a go next time.

As for the Indian on the square - I vowed never to go back and it's been 5 years and counting, though now I am tempted, if Admiral thinks they can serve up something good then maybe I could be persuaded to give it another go plus there are a couple of complimentary reviews on Tripadvisor.

Hi all.  Just noticed from afar that the bar in Lathus has opened (may be re-opened for those who can remember  Smile ).  Looks like a British family are the guys taking it on.

I wish them all the very best in their venture - we will certainly give it ago when we're next over.

They have a Facebook page and are serving a variety of fare - looks good value with the Menu du Jour at 13 Euros including wine and coffee.  Looks like a good selection of beer/cider too Thumb

Would be interesting to get some feedback - hopefully lots of reports about how busy they are  Five

Look forward to hearing more...
