I have the name of the place in Liglet, Le Sapin Vert, which does fish and chips etc, which I'm going to visit in May, but perhaps we could have an updated list of suggestions on here of everyone's favourite places to eat lunch or evening meals. I'm interested to hear of all areas, thanks.

Very good idea Jane.
Not necessarily eating out, but there is a mobile pizza van that visits Adriers every Friday from 6pm-9pm. It parks up in the square opposite the Marie in Rue Principale. It's all cooked to order so there's a10-15 minute wait, which can be spent very happily enjoying a glass of vin rouge at the Bar des Tilleuls on the square. Once you have your pics you could take it down to the lake for a picnic.

The van has a proper wood-fired clay pizza oven, the dough is fresh and authentic and there's a wide range of toppings on offer.

Thoroughly recommended by me!

Good places for a summer lunch depend on whether you want to be outside.  Or in.

There is a really good lunch to be had at the brasserie inside the Hotel de France in Montmorillon.  Usually packed with our French chums which must be a good sign.  But...it is inside.

Outside, try behind Le Romans des Saveurs.  Nice gravelled courtyard looking out onto the Gartempe.  Fairly basic; chicken on a skewer, beef on a skewer, salades, chips etc etc plus beer, wine and soft drinks.  Summer only.

Again outside on the edge of the main square is the La Brasserie du Marche. It bills itself as an Indian restaurant but...
One of the more surprising dishes we tried there (because we didn't know what we were ordering) turned out to be thinly sliced curried beef in a giant pitta choc-a-block with chips.  Yum.

In good weather La Voulzie just outside Lathus is a must.  Ask for a table on the terrasse.  Terrific grub and wonderful views of the the Gartempe.

La Marmite in Le Dorat has a nice outside seating area although they have recently mucked it up a bit by providing play things for small children.  Don't take a vegetarian there.  The place is very red in tooth and claw.

The Auberge de la Blourde is a really nice "working mens" cafe type place at the top end of Mouterre sur Blourde just past Adriers.  Lovely food but....you will get what is on the board and nothing else.  Again they have no idea what a vegetarian is.

I could go on but I'm starting to bore myself. Whistle

Brilliant, thanks Brian. My other half absolutely loves the pizzas from Pizza Bella, in Montmorillon, so I'm sure he'll be interested in trying this one too.

Bon répas!
In my opinion, the Adriers van pizzas are better than Pizza Bella's. However, as we now have our very own wood-fired pizza oven I'm pleased to say that we're now self-sufficient  Munch  Thumb

Thanks Admiral, I'm writing all these down. We've noticed a few places only offer the plat du jour, so it's like it, or lump it  Big Grin I think I'll give the real meat loving place a miss, but the others have been noted, thank you  Thumb

As AroundMontmorillon's resident vegetarian (all web sites must have one thanks to an EU directive) I'll try to add some alternatives to the "nature, red in tooth and claw" establishments!

As Admiral mentioned the Hotel de France, I'd like to recommend their (indoors) restaurant, Le Lucullus. They have a choice of (I think 2) set menus, but also offer a set vegetarian meal, which remains the best I have ever eaten. Faultless service and it's a bargain at €25 per person.

I tried ordering a veggie burger in a restaurant in Montmorillon, I may have said in the past. When it arrived it was basically a lump of warmish cheese, with some salad in a bread roll  Big Grin
