Just thought I would update as we have now got sorted.

Decided to stay with Orange

We have A Livebox Zen at €33,90 + €3,00 for the rental of the box. Total €36,90 per month.

My computer is showing we are getting 72Mbps I'm not sure if that's good, but I'm finding it super after dial-up.

We didn't go for the extra phone line as we don't use it that much (the only downside is if the internet goes off so does the phone) But we are getting Free unlimited phone calls in France and the UK, (mobiles are charged)

We can run two computers and use the phone at the same time no problem, it works using Wifi and can be used in the garden. Video's and Radio no problem. You can also get French TV by renting another box but we didn't go for that.

There is a little robot on the computer that tells me if there is a problem, you click it and he starts to fix it for you instead of phoning the help desk. Though you can still phone the English speaking help desk if you want.

So far apart from them cocking up the connection during the move, we are very happy. It's super fast with free calls, and a hell of a lot cheaper than what we were paying.

Update finished I'm off to listen to The Archers on Liveradio.fm Big Grin

As Fred is now sorted Smile can we hijack his thread and ask a similar question please?

Our house was once connected to the telephone service in the past but no longer. We have just been refused permission for a satellite dish from the Marie so … our shopping list.

We would like an internet connection to watch TV and listen to radio 4, but are not particularly bothered about a landline phone connection. I’m assuming with an internet connection then skype calls to the UK would be fine. Can we get internet without having to have a France Telecomm line?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure but I don't think you can get all UK TV on the internet, you can get radio on Liveradio.fm

Try putting your phone number (or your nearest neighbour) in here https://www.degrouptest.com/ it will tell you what is available.

Or try the Orange FT British line 09 69 36 39 00 sales will tell you what they can do for you.

I stayed with Orange FT because I heard you did have to have their line.

Could you not hide your Satellite dish up (or down low) somewhere out of public view Wink

Hiya folks.

The short answer is, yes you can get the internet without a landline telephone.

The problem is that in the long run it can be a more expensive - and slower -option.

I don't know if you live in the middle of no-where, as seemingly was Fred back in the day, but I can't see why you can't have a landline if the house was once connected. Or maybe you just don't want one.

Also why did the Marie turn down your planning application for a sat dish? Surely people around you have them...in which case a precedent has been set......errr"wal" Just hide it.

Have a squint at this

http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk

I know it's UK based but it gives you the general picture - so to speak.

I'm sure Fred will beat me replying to this with sound advice. In my wildest dreams someone else on this site might wake up and say something useful.

Bonne chance.

You need permission for a satellite dish? We didn't realise and just put one up!
We still don't have internet and we also don't have a connected phone line so would be interested to hear if you can actually get internet without the France Telecomm line. Keep us posted!
