Just thought I would add a bit to this thread. I usually make my own curry so I'm not used to using the ones in the Jar, but the other day myself and Mrs Fred were talking about how we miss our younger days when we staggered home from the pub on a Friday night and stopped off at the Chinese takeaway to get some Chips and Curry Sauce.

I've never been able to make Chinese curry sauce and mine usually turn out more like a mild Indian curry, so I went on a little mission to find out how to make Chinese curry sauce just like we used to get from the Chinese takeaway. And I came across Goldfish.

Apparently Goldfish Chinese Curry Sauce is used by a lot of Chinese takeaways. So I ordered some from Amazon to give it a try, and it's exactly as we remember it.

We did have to play around with the volume of water to paste as Goldfish say 3 water to 1 paste, but we found 10 water to 1 paste was better. I know it's not what the original poster was looking for, but if you remember those days of chips and curry sauce then this is it.

Nice tip Fred.  But a sauce with the word Goldfish in it takes a bit of getting used to let alone a great leap of faith.

Strangely I don't remember getting chips and curry sauce from a Chinese takeaway in the past.

Possibly because I'm too young.  Whistle

I wonder if the Asian place in Limoges sell it?  Must take a squint next time.

Whilst on the subject of strange names there is a Jamaican soup mix on the market with a distinctive - and hugely suspect - name.  Nuff said......

More like too Old  Big Grin  Chips and Curry sauce has been a staple stagger home from the pub food for years but you probably stopped doing that in the 50s.

Yes it's a bit of an odd name but it contains No Goldfish.

Ingredients:
Wheat Flour, Vegetable Oil (100% Rapeseed), Palm Oil, Curry Powder (12%) (Coriander, Turmeric, Cumin, Garlic, Salt, Chick Pea, Chilli, Mustard, Fenugreek, Black Pepper, Fennel, Star Anise), Salt, Water, Monosodium Glutamate, Coconut Cream 1.5%, Onion Powder, Spice 0.5%, Contains: Wheat Flour & Mustard Seed.

No I went down to Thoune Asia last week they don't sell it. I think it's more of a British thing as I couldn't find it anywhere in France hence me getting it from Amazon UK.

They also do Madras, Hot & Spicy, Thai, and Japanese but I havent tried them yet:  https://www.goldfishsauces.co.uk/index.html

Thanks Tersu.
Not too bothered about the curry sauces but a local source of poppadoms would be very useful. I became so desolate for them last summer I had a go at making my own. It wasn't a great success as I tried to dry them on probably the wettest week of the summer. They turned out more like poppadom flavoured pitta bread...
