My self and my husband Chris moved to Bourg-Archambault on the 30th August and we love being here.

We are just finding our feet and getting settled in to our new way of life, i was chuffed to find your board and i'm sure I will find it helpful as we start to go through the process of changing things over to France.

The last few winters have been quite mild, but I wonder if we're in for a chilly one?
The reason I ask is that I saw my first migrating cranes of the year - about 500 heading towards the sunny southwest. This is a good 3-4 weeks earlier than I've seen them in my previous 5 winters.

Any thoughts?

Can anyone recommend a tiler English or French to carry out work in a bathroom,approximately 9m/sq walls and 9m/sq floor.We have the tiles onsite,possibly also a screed to lay work to be carried out in about 1 weeks time,thank you in advance.We are situated in Coulonges 86290.

Just thought you all might like to know that the French parliament has abolished the law on drivers having to carry a beathalyser kit in the motor.

The requirement has been law since 2013 but has proved un-workable and the kits themselves unreliable.

Sooo.....it has only taken our French chums six years to realise an un-realistic peice of legislation didn't work.

The festival is back for year eight this coming weekend - September 21 and 22.

Featuring a total of nine live bands, kids entertainment, buvette etc etc.

Saturday kicks off at 1600 and runs to 2300 with four live bands while Sunday starts at 1100 and ends at 1900 with five bands.

Aire des Ilettes.  Free entry.

We are hoping to get our move to Montmorillon in motion for mid-late October.  Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations for a removal company in the NE of England that they have used for a move to France.

Also - any recommendations as to the best route over the Channel when travelling with dogs for stopping off / ferry v tunnel  etc

My favourite pharmacy in France is on the move.

It's the pharmacy in Adriers where my chums M. Jean and Mme Melena practice their dark arts.

According to Doc Marie they are up-rooting from their current location opposite the church and moving to the front of the building where the doc has her surgery.

That building, from memory, has been various incarnations of restaurants over the past few years.  All of which failed.

Don't know when the move will take place but they are well worth the visit even if you don't live in Adriers.  Service with a smile, a hefty portion of humour    and most of it delivered in English - to varying degrees - although they both like to hear you try out your French language skills.

They are a much needed breath of fresh air compared to the grumpy, automated, humourless so-called "service" at the pharmacy in Leclerc.....where even the queueing system    is baffling to say the least.

Just thought you'd like to know.....

If any of you have annnoying children/grandchildren that need entertaining, the circus is in Lathus this weekend - August 3 and 4.

Saturday ents kick off at 8.30pm.

Sunday is 7pm.

Morning all,

I'm changing our server this morning to achieve greater reliability and security.
You shouldn't notice any difference after the change but the site may disappear from view for a while.
If all goes well, this will be for a few minutes at about 09:00. If all does not go well, the changeover may take about 2 hours.

A passing rustic in Montmorillon tells me the Vienne is on red drought alert.

News to me....but there again a lot of things pas me by.  Not.

Haven't seen any newspaper billboards screaming about the subject but he tells me the Vienne is now one of more than 60 departments on red alert.

I assume this means no filling of swimming pools, no watering the jardin, no washing of the voiture etc etc.

But is it true?

does anyone has recommandations for an eye clinic or Optometrist / ophthalmologist within a 50 km radius around Monty with a decent wait time... i was told not before end December, is this a "normal" wait time in France ?..how can this be possible  ?

Who else experienced the earthquake at 08:50 on 21st June?
Apparently the epicentre was about 60km north west of Poiters, and it was magnitude 4.2
Read all about it here!

I was indoors at the time, and it felt as if a large truck headbutted the house - twice, about 10 seconds apart.
No damage but several pots and pans were dislodged from their hook.

Any other reports?

Just as a point of info; anyone being sent by their GP for a blood test etc, the laboratoire has now moved from the centre of Montmorillon.

It is now sited just off the roundabout on the Moulismes road just down from Aldi heading out of town.

Think the building used to house Marcadier (?) builders offices and yard.

Just saying.......

I am getting fed up with the people who supply our internet - the connection keeps flipping out and the charges keep getting higher and higher.

We are now paying an average of €40 to €45 a month for internet and "free" calls to Angleterre a month.  They're obviously not free because we pay a flat rate for them within that cost.

This is on top of the France Telecom rental for the land line.  

Can anyone out there in Montyland recommend a more reliable and cheaper internet provider than our current bunch of charalatans?  They have to be reliable and not supply dodgy modems that pack-up at the faintest sniff of a storm.
