Hello all,

As many of you will know, Fred is retiring gracefully in a haze of cheese and Merlot and I am taking over day-to-day management and operation of Around Montmorillon.

As part of the changeover, we are moving the forum to a new server. It's a bit like moving house, and we all know how simple and stress-free that usually works out.

Part of the process is locking up the old house and unlocking the new one before moving the old furniture back in. We're planning to do this over the weekend of May 12th and 13th 2018. Some time on May 12th, if you try to visit the forum you'll see a 'Forum Closed' notice. On Monday morning, the forum will be open again and you will all be most welcome.

You don't need to do anything. Your user names and (encrypted) passwords will be automatically moved and you should be able to log in as usual. If you can't please send an email to [email protected]

As with all house moves, you may find that some of the furniture is not exactly where you expect it to be after the move. If this is the case, please let me know and I'll try to put things right!

So if you'd like to say goodbye to our home of many years, now is a good time to do it. I'd just like to sign off by thanking Fred for his sterling efforts on Around Montmorillon for many years, and thanking him even more for his help and support in moving everything over to the new server - and trying to break it!

Bye for now,

Brian

Great way of explaining it Brian.  Big Grin

Your and all the members are welcome, I have posted on the members only boards so I won't go over it all again in this thread.

I will be here when the removal men arrive (at least we won't have to wait for the Notaires and sign 1000 pieces of paper) and once Brian has all the office equipment in the new home I will be emptying my desk.

I'm sure Brian will do a good job of keeping Around Montmorillon friendly and you are all lucky to have him around willing to take it over.

Thank Brian and Fred. I’ve made a note of the email address in case I get locked out. Then I’ll be back for the house warming  Big Grin

Did I mention it will be a "bring a winebox" affair?

Once everyone sees that statement I'm sure the place will be busy again.

Have fun guys - been there, done it and bought the T-Shirt (shame it didn't fit).

If it all goes well without a single hiccup, think yourselves lucky, then set up a business migrating forums.

If it all goes as per the rest of the IT world, i.e. FUBAR or TITSUP (Total Inability To Supply Usual Performance) then welcome to the real world.

I can confirm that Brian now has complete control over Around Montmorillon and everything is now on his server. And ahead of the stated time [Image: Five.gif]

Unlike last time when I took over the forum it was not possible to get access to the database and that is why we had to start again. But this time Myself and Brian have worked together to make sure everything got moved across smoothly. We didn't need any luck on our side as we were not taking any chances.

So it now only leaves me to say thank you to Brian for not only taking it over but for doing most of the hard work. Around Montmorillon is in good hands and it's members are lucky that you offered to keep it going.

Good luck everyone for the future, long may it keep going.

Fred.

Bonjour Thanks, Jim - you have th ehonour of being the first to post on the new server.

Thanks to Fred's excellent advice, I made sure I bought a T-Shirt with th eright size and right number of head and arm holes so that really helped!

In fact the transitions has gone pretty well - mainly because of the excellent support from Fred, for which many, many thanks are due!
