Fish and Chip van

When we were over in July we were told, by some people who live in La Trimouille, that there is a fish and chip van, which comes every Friday, about 20 minutes drive away from La Trimouille. Anyway we couldn't find it and ended up having a pizza in Montmorillon. Does anyone know anything about this chippy van? We brought a group of sorely disappointed teenagers, who we look after,  with us in July, so I need to be aware of where it is for next time we bring them back.

I'm not sure about La Trimouille, but there is a beautiful old yellow and blue Citroen H3 van run by fishetfrites.com that visits many locations (mainly in north 87). It's run by an English couple and very good.
I can recommend the créperie in Montmorillon. It's at the city of the hill that leads from the main square to the old town, just on the west side of the Gartempe.

Just to add that the créperie is called Le Brouard, and it is at 1 Rue Montebello in Montmorillon.

If you're able to get a copy of etcetera magazine you will find a whole section advertising the different fish and chip sellers along with the dates they sell or try,

The general shop/mini supermarket in La Trim, by the bridge has etcetera magazine by the till - it's free and in English !

The creperie in Montmorillon is also good, I might add!

Oh great, thanks for the information. Yes it was at Le Dorat where we were driving round and round looking for the van, but no joy. That's a handy link there for the future. I've seen the etcetera magazine in my son's house. He was given a few copies from neighbours in the past. I always wondered where you got it from, so thanks for telling me you get it from the supermarket by the river. I've shopped in there a few times and never noticed it. Too busy looking for food I suppose.  
We very nearly went in for a meal at the creperie on the bridge at Montmorillon, so thanks for recommending that too. Definitely one for the future. Always handy to know where is best to eat out. We've eaten at a small restaurant on the square in Montmorillon. Don't know the name of it, but it seems to be run by a bloke on his own. I think it was supposed to be an American themed place a while back. Anyway we have eaten there twice, but tbh we have struggled to find a place that suited everyone and he was open, so hey ho.

Fish et frites goes to Lussac les eglise every 2nd Thursday, which is a bit closer than la Dorat to la trimouille. The sports bar there is quite happy for you to eat your fish n chips in there if your buying a drink ( as is the bar in La Dorat. Check on line for dates and menu. Give them a ring and pre order too as sometimes they are so popular they sell out. The fish and chips are really good and worth the trip!
Lussac les eglises often has had live music outside, on the Thursday's in the warmer months, as an added bonus.

Thanks Huw for the heads up on where the chippy van will be. I didn't know it came a bit closer to La Trimouille. We are staying in the Hotel de France in a couple of weeks when we come over to sign for the house, so we will give Le Lucellus a try. Any recommendations on what to go for on the menu? We pretty much like anything.

No problem Jane (welcome to Montmorillon too) we've been to Le Lucellus many times with family & friends and recommend it to our guests who have all said it has been some of the best food they have eaten. We usually go for the menu terroir €25 a head for a 3 course meal which ends up more like 5 or 6 courses with the various complimentary amuse bouches included. They have a vegetarian menu for about €21 -I'm not vegetarian but sometimes choose it as they are very innovative. They have an a la carte and also a "chefs choice" degustation menu at about €60 if you want a really special occasion. I've never had it, but some of our guests did and said it was amazing
The house wines are pretty good and reasonable and they have a pretty good wine list if you want to splash out a bit more
The menu is usually on line so you can have a bit of a leisurely look before. The people there are extremely helpful and will explain the menu in English if you are stuck

Sounds lovely. I will check them out online. I often opt for the vegetarian option on menus myself, although I'm not vegetarian either. I did go for the veggie burger in Montmorillon once though and had my eye wiped, as the French idea of a veggie burger was basically a slab of cheese with some salad. Not what I was expecting
