Shops around Montmorillon

Good morning,

I'm trying to get organised before we head out in a few weeks & was wondering if anyone had recommendations on where to buy white goods, sofas, beds, garden furniture & also if the local DIY shop is good value.

Most of the brico/building places are pretty much alike, to be honest.
For a bit of choice, I'd go to the retail shed area to the north of Poitiers (in Chasseneuil), or to Family Village at Limoges. There are plenty of furniture and electrical shops there so it's easy to compare things.

In Montmorillon, several people have recommended LeClerc for white goods but I have no personal experience of buying electricals from them.

We bought a fridge and oven in LeClerc - both ok value for the holiday use they get, but only shopped there because we didn't have time to go further afield, the fridge we needed in a hurry!

In comparison to the UK (where we live full time) the local DIY is not particularly good value in my opinion. We find things more expensive in France and there is limited choice in Montmorillon. You really need to go to Poitiers or Limoges for more choice and the bigger chains.

We long for a local Toolstation or Screwfix!

If you're organised of course you can source these things online or bring what you think you need - no matter how much we prepare we always need to buy something locally and just cross our fingers that they have what we're after. Of course, if you're only in town a few weeks at a time you don't get to acquire the same local knowledge and visit all the shops you'd like. After 5 years in the area, I only just found the charity shop tucked away in Monty recently.

If you don't mind second hand Emmaus in Poitiers or Le Blanc for furniture.

There's a shop called Action, on the block next to the SuperU in Montmorillon, where you can pick up some bits and bobs for your house. I just got some planters, for the garden, which were 7.95 euros each, which weren't a bad buy tbh. 
They sell everything from ornaments, garden stuff, stationary, decorative items etc, to paint, household bits and bobs and crisps and choccie. Basically it's a bit like Home Bargains in the UK. 
We always end up visiting Mr Bricolage in Montmorillon for some kind of tool, or plumbing bits, which inevitably we've left at home in England. I know we get ripped off there, and we'd get things cheaper in B&Q, but needs must sometimes.
I've bought stainer for the front door from Leclerc, which wasn't expensive and did the job. Sometimes it's best to price things up in the supermarkets and compare the prices to the DIY places. Try and bring paint over from the UK if you can. It's so much cheaper over here and not as drippy. 
We've brought all white goods over, but our son bought his washing machine and cooker for his house from Leclerc. More expensive, but perfectly fine. 
I'm not sure if someone had written this on here before, or whether I read it on Facebook, but I saw that you can order from Screwfix in France and have stuff delivered within 3 days, if you order over 74 euros I think. Worth checking that one out.
Also, if you're maybe over for a few weeks, people have said on here that they order from Amazon France and have stuff delivered, maybe within a few days. Good luck

You might want to go and look in Eco Entrepôt in Bussière Poitevin they have a selection of sofas and rugs and also a big wood section and also sell screws, paint etc plus kitchen items. Locally known as The Shed
