We've been on a tour of Chateau Guillaume, in Lignac, about 2 years ago, but are there any more chateaus open to the public in the area?

Hiya Jane, good to see the old place is still buzzing with info and chat. Not.
Off the top of my head I can think of two in the locale - sorry you're going to have to do the leg work to find opening hours etc. First is the chateau at Bourg-Archambault first started in the 13th century with further work right up to the 19th. Impressive looking place with turrets, surrounded by a moat etc so has all the necessary requiremeents. Once in Bourg you can't miss it so I won't bother giving you complicated directions. Privately owned, parts of it used to be open to the public. I say "used to be" because I haven't been there in a long time and things change. Second is the Castle Beaupuy. Many royal connections with the earliest parts dating from the 13th century with later additions in the 15th. On the road between Saulge and Plaisance and NOT very well signposted. If you're coming from Saulge keep 'em peeled on the left hand side of the road.....start looking for an ordinary looking wooded farm track. Err.....that could be anywhere then. Again privately owned so worth checking in advance. If you like this sort of thing, you can also see, from the outside only, a fortified medieval house and moat on the road from the centre of Plaisance to Lathus. I'm sure there are others. It would be nice if other people on here could just wake up .....

Thanks very much, we will definitely check those out. We’ve been to Bourg Archembault, outside, but not inside. I believe they only open one day a year. Correct me if I’m wrong, anyone.
Not heard of the others, so will hunt those out. |
