Hello Duquet welcome to Around Montmorillon.
Just dive on in and get posting, you will find us a friendly little group. And although still small at the moment, it's people like you that will make it grow. There are some members who have lived here a few years and some have just moved here, we also have some that just visit for the odd holiday. So ask away I'm sure someone will be able to answer or point you in the right direction. On buying a house, you may already know this but be prepared to add on some hefty fees especially if buying through an agent, expect lots of paperwork, and a wait of around 3 months for the process to be completed. Regards. Fred.
Thanks for your reply, Fred. I am aware that nothing in France moves without mountains of paperwork and the payment of lots of fees.
I am hoping to retire in about three years and to live in France at least some of the time. The Montmorillon area looks great; I am specifically looking at La Trimouille and, since I don't want to drive if I can avoid it, am trying to investigate the 'Transport a Demande' service. My French is pretty good, and hopefully would improve with use (and the aid of a Larousse for technical terms!)

Hi Duquet and welcome to around Montmorillon!
We have a little place we bought and renovated in Montmorillon. We will return in sept to live there permanently. We see you are looking to stay but hope to not drive. What is the Service you speak of? We have found there are hardly any taxis's and no local bus. We chose Montmorillon partly because it has a train station which links to Poitiers and Limogues. There are not a lot Of trains but it's a good little service and then goes on to Paris in just two hours. We drive a hire car currently but will look to buy a car on our return. La Trim is lovely but you may feel isolated without transport. Montmorillon is very friendly and great Cafés and a thriving community. Best wishes for your move Rosie and Huw
