All very useful info, which is what the forum is all about - information and someone willing to be a guinea pig for others. The sacrifice you made is quite outstanding.
Oh you're welcome it wasn't that painful really.

But it does disprove the ex-pat gossip I had been fed about a French licence being inferior to a Brit licence.
Just goes to show; actual experience beats urban legend and myth.
Yes I too have heard all sorts of stuff, but the categories are the same as they are in UK. Come to that, the same as Spain, Germany, Etc. It's a European Licence after all.
The only difference is for some reason France being France if you want to tow a trailer, use a large people carrier, or use a largish truck you will need a medical from your GP. Mine checked my blood pressure and asked me to read the first 4 letters on a board, and that was it. Hell even Mrs Fred passed it and she couldn't see a Cow on the road until she was close enough to milk it. (In her case it does state on here licence she must wear her glasses whilst driving)
The only categories I don't have is my HGV which I let go anyway before coming to live here, and a large Bus which I never had anyway.
Oh and my motorcycle one changed to 4 different type of motorcycle for some reason.
So apart from HGV or PSV (which I cant help with) you can get all the categories you had in the UK plus they throw in a tiddly widdly little moped as a bonus.
