My new leccy plug for the trailer has seven connection points, i.e. one more than the six on the present one. Happily connections on both old and new plugs are numbered so I'll connect the same coloured wires to the same numbers in the new plug and leave connection #7 alone. Unless you have a better idea.

I think the 6 pin connector is an oldish standard. Seven is, I think, standard these days. Here's a wiring diagram in case it helps...

If you get stuck I have a soldering iron, multimeter etc! My services are at your disposal...

Aha. thanks Brian. This Yorkshire/Lancashire {brought up/born) cheapskate bought only the plug. which is rusty, corroded and generally in sh*t state. To use all the connections of a seven point plug requires I would think a seven point socket. If it works to pretend the plug has only six connection points then fine. Some places in the current 1 to 6 have two wires. If it doesn't, I'll splash out and buy a 7pt socket.
