I think you will find food prices have gone up across the globe, I believe due to the rise in affluence in places like India and China which means they can buy more so the demand for food is higher and producers will sell to the highest bidder, hence the butter shortage and hike in price ......
I have never eaten a lot of meat (Mediterranean diet) and due to my UK state pension (Thank you tories) I tend to buy chicken €2.99 Kg and Pork at less than €3.50 Kg and a little beef when it's on Special which I mince for Burgers, meat balls and mince, I make bacon, ham, Palma style ham, smoked salmon and kippers, I get 6 meals plus stock from a chicken, so good value.
Lots of Pasta and rice dishes, love a Risotto
I try to grow some veggies and herbs if I'm up to it, people bring Marmite and HP sauce from the uk, I would not pay the silly prices here.
If anyone would like a Horseradish plant I have some spare in exchange for a few exotic plant seeds if possible.
