Ours could do with a trim now, but it's too wet.
I could post when I cut mine but I don't think it would help much as sometimes I cut it every week and sometimes it doesn't need cutting for a couple of months.
Obviously you don't want to be paying someone to keep it down for use but more for keeping it maintained. It also depends on what he will be cutting it with, if it's a lawnmower then you don't want to let it get too long. But if he has a field cutter it may only need a couple of cuts a year.
As you're not going to be using it this year I would tell him to cut it when the farmers are cutting the fields for hay. (That is as long as he has a field cutter and not a lawnmower)
