I have no direct experience of this, but have friends in 2 other French towns who managed to get themselves connected to mains gas. In one case, the pipe passed by their front door and the cost was about €350, for the other, the connection was about 300m away and the cost was about €2500.
I think the only way you'll get an accurate answer is to contact the supplier. Engie's website has a section for foreign residents which has some useful information. There's also an email contact form with different buttons to click depending on whether or not you already have an account.
