Well it depends on how proud you are of your lawn or if you grow your own veg.
They won't eat you veg, but they will keep shoving it out of the way and can cause a lot of loss from your veggie patch. They will also eat your worms and other good workers from your garden.
As for your lawn it will end up just a patch of dirt once they really get going. Do you want to sit on a patch of dirt where the legs of your sun lounger fall into holes, or your wine and cheese start sliding off you wobbly table. Also do you want to be carting mud in your house on your boots or risk twisting your ankle?
The soil they do throw out is excellent for potting or throwing on your veggie patch, we used to collect it but after getting a couple of wheelbarrow loads a day and watching our young veg being shoved out of their beds we decided enough was enough and they had to go.

Yes you are going to have to kill him unless you can live with him. We thought we could live with him but after a while it became us or Him. Oh and it wasn't just him, we got about 8 in the end.
