Why not invest in a good strimmer. I have one that you can take the cord bobbin off and replace it with a cutting blade. It's not great for giving a nice cut on grass if you want a bowling lawn but you can soon get it down using the cord, and the blades are good for the brambles and saplings.
I got mine from http://www.leroymerlin.fr they have a good selection and you can get different blades and cord, I have a cord bobbin and two blades one like a circular saw and one with just three blades. Go for the ones you have to strap onto to yourself as they are more powerful, I can get through almost anything with mine.
Look for a Débroussailleuse spend a bit more than you want and it will last for years, as you're not here all the time don't go cheap it won't last.
Oh and get yourself some good goggles.
