Hi all
Just thought I'd post my(our) experience with obtaining car insurance.
Rosie has an Australian licence - I have Uk & Aus
As we had been living in Vietnam for 2 years, where we had a motorbike or used drivers we had no car insurance history for that period.
No French insurers would give us any "no claims" type discounts, despite both having been driving for over 30 years. Most of the local quotes were around €1200 a year for fully comp.
Using an on line comparison site https://www.lelynx.fr came up with
https://www.lolivier.fr @ €380
https://direct-assurance.fr/ @€600
Per year both for fully comp etc
Sites are all in french (but with Google translate assisting) are navigable with patience.
Unfortunately the cheaper one would not insure Rosie because of current lack of Eu licence so we went for the direct assurance one.
Relatively easy procedure - all docs uploaded and electronic signing, (has an iPhone app as well)
Ended up witha couple of phone calls as (of course) I misunderstood the procedure.
They don't have an English speaking help desk but a lovely Frenchlad gave it a good go and was patient with my (bad) Franglaise but agreed to email me all correspondence as I find it easier to follow than phone calls.
Short of it car now has it's nice little green sticker. No idea if the insurance is better or worse than any other if it comes to a claim but a few blogs seem to suggest they are ok.
Any way just thought I'd share.
Cheers Huw
