As for the phone, I know exactly what you mean. I can get by talking face to face but on the phone I just get totally lost, I don't have an answer for that either apart from use Email and Google Translate or better still get in your car and go an speak to them face to face. At least with the latter you can stay till you understand. But that doesn't help in this case as you only had the number.
