It's my understanding the tax fonciere is due for payment around October. Should I receive a demand from the local Marie and when? Is it possible to set up this and the tax d'habitation on direct debit? Thanks.

Tax Fonciere should have been paid last Monday - 17th October. If you log into your account at impots.gouv.fr you'll be able to check your bill and pay it. If you don't have an account, go to your local tax office and explain that you haven't received a bill.

It's worth noting that the bill is sent from the tax authorities, not your local mairie.

It is possible to pay monthly or annually, and direct debit (prélevement) is one of the payment options.
