Hello, this forum is a really nice idea... I'm planning a visit to Montmorillon in a couple of weeks to have a look round, am interested in the *possibility* of living there, at least part-time. It'll be a bit of a flying visit... Will anything be open on a Sunday? Thank you and nice to meet you electronically, Catfish

Welcome to the forum Catfish - we certainly hope you'll continue to like the forum.

Not so sure myself about what's open on Sundays (I'm away working overseas) but I'm sure some of the other 'locals' will pop along shortly and give you an update.

The major supermarkets normally open at the very least on a Sunday morning, but do be prepared for the town to be a bit of a ghost town as is normal in rural France.

Hello Catfish nice to meet you.

Sorry but we are all asleep on Sundays. I think Leclerc supermarket is open Sunday morning and maybe a couple of the larger hotels and a bread shop, but like Steve said its a bit like a ghost town on a Sunday as is the whole area.

Also be careful on Mondays as some places don't open, and apart from Leclerc again don't expect to find anywhere open between noon - 2pm.

Regarding coming to live here part time, be careful it could end up Full Time if you like the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Good to hear you like the forum, it's the members that will make it successful so don't be a stranger. And don't hesitate to shout out, some of us have been here a while and you should get a good mix of advice.

Don't expect an awful lot to happen on a Sunday. The big LeClerc supermarket in Montmorillon is open on Sunday - until 1130am and the Super U about a mile away until midday. Life here doesn't get much racier than that.

Also, if you run out of your favourite cheroots etc on a Sunday be warned the tabacs close at midday.

Sunday opening boulangeries close at about 1300 and if you run out of wine, beer etc on a Sunday afternoon then you can't get any. Although I do know of a source..............

Monday, in some respects ain't much better, just being part of an extended weekend. But hey! It's the sort of lifestyle most of us are here for and with a bit of knowledge and forward planning life can be very simple.
