Bring UK car to France for spares

I've just been reading Admiral's thread about using a UK car over here: English motors in France

But wondered if any of our members had any information/experience about bringing a car over here for spares?

1. Can I get one day insurance to drive it down here.
   
2. Will I have to register it in France even though I want to strip it and never take it on the road again.
   
3. Would I have need to register as the new owner in the UK.
   
4. Do you still have to tell Swansea it's been exported permanently and scrapped.
   

Any information gratefully received as it's been a long time and I don't want to go through all the hassle to register one (just get it here to break up for spares)

This whole lark should be quite simple and straightforward.

You have two options:

a)  Don't tell anybody what you're doing or;

b)  Fess up and do it all above board.

Assuming Option b then;

1)  Some insurance companies - like Saga - used to do very short term European cover.  Whether they still do.......
2)  There is absolutely no need to register it in France if it's not going to be driven here AND is kept on private land.
3)  This is the tricky bit.  Usually when buying in the UK you register with Swansea using the docs from the previous owner.
4)  If you do (3) then yes you will have to inform Swansea it is off road.  They will send you the paperwork, you complete and return.

Job done.

Parts 3 and 4 are a nuisance if you're going legit.  But if you're getting a motor off a bloke who knows a bloke in the Dog and Duck for a pint of Old Dribbling Best Bitter and a packet of crisps then why bother...........?

However, if you follow that route you are driving in the UK and France in a car not registered to you, not insured by you and just waiting for Old Bill or M. Gendarme to pull you over for a little chat.

Just an idea.........a bloke who lives at Azat le Ris commutes regularly between there and Crowcombe, Glos with a flat bed trailer/lorry, on which he brings cars/vans /trailers.For a fee, he brings suitable items to/fro. Might be worth a phone call perhaps?
