The new French smoke detector law comes into play on 8 March 2015
- The owner of the house has to supply the detector.
- You must perform regular checks to ensure it's working.
- They must conform to NF EN 14604 and have the CE marking.
- You must have at least one. (I'm not sure what room it should be in though if you do opt for only one)
Apparently insurance companies are going to enforce it by making you liable to a €5,000 excess of a claim if you don't have one or if it's not working.
*Be warned there are some scam artists going door to door telling you its obligatory that you have one, it is obligatory but DO NOT buy from them as some do not conform and you will be ripped off.
