Swimming

We used to swim in the lake at St Cyr near Dissay, but this has not been allowed for the last five years due to a bacterial problem.  Any suggestions for lakes or riversides in the area, please?  I am sure I saw one a year or two back with an imported sandy beach - or was I dreaming?

I know and have used the local swimming pools, but my wife is after some 'wild' swimming.

Hi, just saw your post ...if not too late 
Vienne river swimming :
Queaux (south vienne)  is a nice spot, sandy beach with lifeguard on duty, (located close to the Camping du renard)
you may try Bonneuil Matours beach

Excellent - never too late!

We also had Parc Aventure du Lac de Saint-Pardoux recommended, which has three beaches. It's about one hour south, so we haven't travelled there yet.
