I know Brian touched on this is a previous thread but.......I've just fallen foul of the dreaded interweb version of getting a carte grise.

Got the Quitus Fiscal at the Monty tax office without too much trouble having presented myself with a mountain of paperwork.  The woman there told me to take the form to the Prefecture which I duly did.  Only to be turned away in double quick time. Rules

The woman in there - again very helpful and somewhat shame-faced - told me everything was done via the interweb but had run out leaflets to give me such is the demand.  She repeatedly told me to log into my "French account" and take it from there.

What French account?  I don't have a French account other than the bank and I refuse to use that online.

What was she going on about?  I'm only trying to make the car legal and never had this problem with a previous motor in France. Angry

Well here's the website

Step 1: visit and create an account.
Step 2: log in and email them to say that there isn't a category for importing your own vehicle.
Step 3: wait for a reply.
Step 4: GoTo Step 3.

I guess the "French account" she was referring to is the identification system used by ANTS (and other gov't sites) called "France Connect".

It's tied to your Impots or Ameli or La Poste details.

Then you can get into ANTS and do any of the newfangled online vehicle type registrations - bon chance (you'll need it).

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I am totally flummoxed by that website. Huh

How much more difficult can they make it?  Who said the inter web makes life easier?  Nothing beats going into an office and talking to a living breathing person.

If this is going to be the eventual outcome of the cuts in the civil service proposed by M. Macron, then gawd help us all.

I have found a tame French youth who has promised to help me out with it BUT she says friends of hers using it are still waiting months down the line for anything to happen. Angry

On the other hand, I might just take the car back to Angleterre. Whistle

Admiral,

If you look at my motorbike import thread you'll see that I seem to have found a loophole. It must be a loophole as if you go through it, the system starts to work. I'm sure they'll fix it soon.

Basically:
  1. Create an account with La Poste (or use your existing one) and make sure you select the ID Numerique option.
  2. Having had you IDNumerique verified, go to the ANTS website and choose to log in using FranceConnect
  3. You'll then have to go through a couple of steps to verify that you want to use your La Poste account.
  4. Once you've done that, you'll have access to the full system.

Bon chance, mon ami!
