Hi,
Does anyone know if Montmorillon has ever flooded. If it has has anything been done to stop it happening again.
Regards,
Richard

Hello Richard and welcome.
From talking to people who live in Montmorillon, I don't think that flooding is something that troubles the town. The river sometimes gets very high but the properties in general are designed to cope with that. Houses in the town centre have either long sloping gardens or solid masonry walls that extend above any likely flood level.

Hiya Richard and welcome on board the good ship Around Monty. Bonjour

I agree with Brian that flooding doesn't seem to affect people in Montmorillon in the same way that it would in the UK i.e. inducing panic and demands for the government to do something about it.

The Gartempe has flooded many times over the years; the most serious being in 1992 (I think).  If you look around the town there are markers set into buildings showing the flood water level.  The most obvious is just down the road from the creperie where the first house on the left has a marker.

I remember in 2012 when the entire area opposite the piscine flooded and the campsite had to be abandoned.

I hope you're not asking the question because you've just bought on the river. Doh

Thank you, I am possibly buying but I have found out that it is up a short hill so my fears have gone.
