Good for an afternoon outing

Just a suggestion for a gentle afternoon outing........drive to Bourg Archambault, stopping at the chateau with stale bread to feed the numerous fish in the moat. From there , continue to St Leger Magnazeix, where there is a small, but very well stocked garden centre, run by an English couple. They serve excellent tea/coffee and delicious cake, at particularly cheap prices.

Does anyone know if the Chateau at Bourg is ever open to the public?
We would love to have a mooch around inside.

Yes it is is open, but only on patrimone day (16/17th Sept ??) when it is open at designated times (I`d have to tell you nearer the time), at a cost of 6 e per person. When we went round, we were led by an English speaking relative of the Parisian owner , and it was excellent.

Hi Little Al

I've just looked on the 'Les journées du patrimoine dans la Vienne' web site and the chateau is missing this year.  Am I missing something? - and not just a visit to the chateau.  I even had my Euros 6 saved up already!

Patrimoine w/end is Sept 16th and 17th.
And a really useful map of the cultural attractions of the weekend for the country/department here.

Thanks for the link Chris........I`m not sure about the Chateau this year though.I know it`s not a permanent residence,so maybe the family can`t manage it.Usually a hand written sign goes up outside.......if I spot it,I`ll flag it up on this post.
