Thanks for the welcome! I am in town, near Place St Martial. This has been my first extended visit since my purchase late last year. 
So far so good - there are definitely some differences/oddities, but working it out.

Hoping to possibly connect in person with anyone interested/available  when I return in a few months.

Indeed! For me, a walk to the shop (note: singular) takes 90 minutes  
But I do have a big garden
