So the renovations continue......slowly.
Looking for info on where the best place around Monty would be to get a big piece of structural oak beam.
Needs to be 2.5-3m long and about 18" square. Green or seasoned.
Does the place by La Trimouille supply things like this? Ive never seen anybody working there!
Any recommendations for acquiring the above greatly appreciated.
Also acro props? Anywhere to hire locally or anyone got any going spare?

You could try Scierie - SARL BUGEON & Fils at Lathus.

Just be careful. The light haired brother is good and fair, but the dark haired one isn’t so good with the Brits price wise.

Along with Fred, I think the woodyard at Lathus is probably your best bet.

If they don't have what you're looking for they can probably order it for you.

Also, as Fred said, talk to Guillame (just pronounce it William with a G in front).  His brother Sylvan isn't necessarily anti-Brit.....he's just a bit slow and pretends not to understand English whereas William with the G speaks very good Anglais.

The woodyard is on the road from Montmorillon to Lathus on you left as your enter the village.

Could do with some of each. New wood for main support beam. Reclaimed for joists in keeping with what we already have.

It's mostly new stuff but they do have some old stuff laying around, I don't think it's reclaimed but just been sitting around a long time and looks old.

We burnt a lot of old oak beams from our old place in our wood burner, they make great heat. But you may not want to know that.

Apologies for the late reply but, if you're looking for reclaimed oak beams then The Reclamation Yard is the place to go.

Vast selection of all sorts of old stuff - especially old oak beams - so don't take a collector of anything vintage with you.

Only problem is this: the place is just outside Confolens.

Easy to find out if they have anything you need available by ringing Terry on 05 45 30 72 04.  Nice fella and English in case you were forseeing language problems.

Thanks Admiral, it's a great place

We did visit The Reclamation Yard last year and found some salvaged beams but despite being in town for 4 MONTHS we still didn't manage to buy and take delivery of what we needed, maybe this year......

We'll ring ahead this time once we have all the correct measurements. Apparently delivery is cheaper if he's already coming your way and you can be flexible with days/dates.
