Taxe Fonciere is, as Fred rightly said, based on what the taxman thinks the rentable value of the property is plus the location and access to amentiies plus whether you have mains drains, gaz de ville and so on and on...........
Ours went up a whopping 19% this year mainly thanks to the Department increasing their charges. Complaining to the Department doesn't work - they blame government cutbacks and anything else you'd care to mention.
I obviously have kicked up a stink because the bill was €530 this year - a massive rise. I should have known not to raise Hell with the taxman. I lose, he wins.
Now dreading the Taxe de Habitation which was a whopper last year.
