Hello,

New person here.  We (My partner and I) have just bought a very small, very run-down house just outside of La Trimouille.

Looking forward to having a long and joyful relationship with this lovely part of France.  For now, it is a project for us in the holidays, we are hoping that in the long term we may be able to move either part-time, or permanently

Thanks for setting this up, it means I can feel like I am there even when sitting in my house in South Wales.   wave
Hello Kit,
Welcome to the forum.
What sort of work does your house need?

All the best,
Brian

Hi Brian,

Pretty much everything.  We have just come back from a week there, with us camping in the garden.  We love it, but it is nowhere near habitable.

I have been reading back posts about things like buying roofing tiles etc.

My partner is pretty handy and can do electrics and plumbing, but we will probably need to get help with anything big and structural (if we need it)

We made the Market in Montmorrilon on Wednesday which was great, lovely fresh veg and strawberries.

Back now in August, or sooner if I can get the time off.
Most of the other local towns have weekly or monthly markets and each one is delightful in its own way.
I hope you get back in august. Bring a machete with you - with the rains of a few weeks ago the sun is now converting water into grass at an alarming rate!
With regards markets on the 29th of each month you have the market at Les Herolles 86290,worth a visit
I'm in St Leomer, Kit, less than five minutes from La Trimouille so any help I can give, you've got it. I've been in France for eleven years but only four months in Montmorillon area. Cheers Peter

Thanks Peter, that's very kind of you.

We are just starting out, a new (derelict) house, but lovely French and English neighbours.  Only for holidays at the moment as we still have teenagers, but early plans for long summers and eventually a move.

Trying to find out about the rules for reed beds (instead or as well as a septic tank) at the moment.  Next trip is in August and the 'to take' list is getting very long  Blush

Much of the property round here is connected to main drains, including mine which is a restored barn 4km from La Trimouille
Hi everyone, we purchased a house in Bourg-Archambault a year ago and have been over several times since. New roof going on as I write this plus electrical upgrade. Constant battle with bamboo, I was over a few weeks ago with my sons when we dug out the bamboo plus brambles. Coming back tomorrow to show my wife Sandra what we have accomplished but expecting the worst re the bamboo. I fear it will keep coming back until we are moved permanently hopefully this time next year.
We are pleased to have found this forum and hopefully good advice will be forthcoming if we need it.
Ps also willing to help out others whenever possible even if it’s just labouring..
Regards
Phil & Sandra
Hi Sandra and Phil,

Welcome!

Good luck with the bamboo. I managed to persuade our neighbour not to plant it by showing pictures of what might happen a few weeks / months / years down the line!

I hope the roofing and electrical works turn out well. If you're happy with the results it would be great if you could post the artisan/contractor details here at Around Montmorillon.

Any questions - please ask!
