I'm changing our server this morning to achieve greater reliability and security.
You shouldn't notice any difference after the change but the site may disappear from view for a while.
If all goes well, this will be for a few minutes at about 09:00. If all does not go well, the changeover may take about 2 hours.

As many of you will know, Fred is retiring gracefully in a haze of cheese and Merlot and I am taking over day-to-day management and operation of Around Montmorillon.

As part of the changeover, we are moving the forum to a new server. It's a bit like moving house, and we all know how simple and stress-free that usually works out.

Part of the process is locking up the old house and unlocking the new one before moving the old furniture back in. We're planning to do this over the weekend of May 12th and 13th 2018. Some time on May 12th, if you try to visit the forum you'll see a 'Forum Closed' notice. On Monday morning, the forum will be open again and you will all be most welcome.

You don't need to do anything. Your user names and (encrypted) passwords will be automatically moved and you should be able to log in as usual. If you can't please send an email to info@aroundmontmorillon.com

As with all house moves, you may find that some of the furniture is not exactly where you expect it to be after the move. If this is the case, please let me know and I'll try to put things right!

So if you'd like to say goodbye to our home of many years, now is a good time to do it. I'd just like to sign off by thanking Fred for his sterling efforts on Around Montmorillon for many years, and thanking him even more for his help and support in moving everything over to the new server - and trying to break it!

You haven't said much about the new forum, apart from Rosie Feedback on using this site so I take you're all happy? The Feedback board is there for you should you have any suggestions.

It's still early days, and by it's nature it will always be a small forum but it's local to the area and could be a valuable source of information with your help, so a big thank you to those of you that have posted, it's you it's members that will make it what it is.

I've renewed everything for another year, so lets keep going. Spread the word, keep posting even if you think it's not worth it, it may be to some of our readers so keep up the good work.

If you're reading this and you're not a member, please come on in. It's not Just Montmorillon, it's for the area around Montmorillon. So Le Dorat, Chauvigny, Lussac-les-Châteaux, L'Isle-Jourdain, Saint-Savin, La Trimouille, Le Blanc, and anyone else nearby come and share your gems of the local area.

We know you don't like them or getting locked out, but they are in place to protect your account from getting hacked. You get 5 attempts to log-in with your correct log-in details, then you will get locked out and have to fill in the Captcha.

You may also get one if you follow the instructions in this thread Lost Password/Username and again it is in place to protect you.

We hate them as much as you, but without some security measures in place the forum could end up full of spam. And if it's your account that got hacked it would look like it was you that was doing the spamming, which would lead to your account being removed.

So if you want to avoid seeing the Captcha please follow these tips and save yourself the frustration.
  1. Don't forget your password.
  2. Most Browsers and computers have a way of remembering your password.
  3. Don't go past 4 failed log-in attempts.
If all else fails and you do get the Captcha and can't complete it, please get in touch by answering an Email you have received by Around Montmorillon. Don't use the Contact Us button at the foot of the home page as it will give you a Captcha. Doh

Add the code below to your post but change *** for the tid number. you will find this either by looking at the URL in your browser it will look like this: https://aroundmontmorillon.com/showthread.php?tid=121 or some of you can find it by hovering your mouse over the thread title.

So to add a link to "Welcome Guest" you would remove *** and put 121 (which is the tid) using the code below in your post.

If that doesn't' work set it back again and save then try again. If still no luck you have two more options.
