Bonjour

Hi my new neighbours [well after March 11 anyway]

I am shifting my small but perfectly formed body from Gers to Saint Léomer on March 11 [date for signing the vente authentique].

As soon as I arrive I will be looking for a round kitchen table [not enormous] with chairs, a couple of spare beds for upstairs, and one or two bed settees. So will be very happy to see piccies and prices on those items please.

Ciao for now and see you very sooooon Smile

Peter

PS Bogey my lovable Labrador will also be saying hello to everyone and looking for four legged friends
Good luck with your move, although I have no idea where St Leomer is !

Hi tersu

Saint Léomer is about 10 minute drive from Montmorillon. My GPS doesn't recognise either Leomer or St Leomer. Needs to be Saint Leomer full out. Ciao for now. I arrive this Thursday evening eith trailer, sign vente authentique on Friday, Saturday return with van rented from Leclerc, Sunday back to Saint Leomer, Monday morning return van to Leclerc, Monday afternoon sleep till Tuesday afternoon!!!!
Ciao for now, Peter
Hi Peter - and the best of luck with the move.

There is a very good Dépôt Vent in Lussac-Les-Châteaux.  Purchases there benefit a local charity: ADECL.

The address is 4, Rue de Piniers and here it is on Google Maps.

They usually have a good selection of tables, chairs, bureaux, buffets etc. The older pieces tend to be cheaper as (stand by for sweeping generalisation!) the French don't seem to value old furniture.

As an example, I recently bought a very solid rectangular oak table, late 19th century, about 220cm x 90cm for 60€. Also a pair of bedside chamber cupboards in walnut with red marble tops for 50€...

The opening hours are a little eccentric:
Monday, Tuesday 14h30 à 18h.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 10h to 12h and 14h30 to18h
Saturday, sometimes open, usually closed!

We'll be listening out for any emergency calls for help!

Thanks Brian. I have now moved in and expect to spend at least a couple of weeks finding the boxes where all my useful stuff is stocked, like my electric orange squeezer !!

I will take a trip own to Lussac to have a look and go back a second time with my trailer.

Cheers
Peter
You could try Maximum at  Mailhac sur Benaize, closer to you and got all kinds of stuff. Prices are reasonable for furniture although white goods are a little expensive, but they have everything you may need in all respects.

Multo thanko Clive. I'll give it a whirl.

Cheers

Hi Brian

I went down to Rue de Piniers and there is cetainly a lot of stuff down there. Much of it is sturdy and chunky and therefore too big for my small house in Saint Léomer. However, I didn't come away empty-handed. I bought a tiny folding stool which is exactly the right height for sitting on to give Bogey his regular brush. Not sure my two euros will make much difference to the charity, but every little helps, as the bishop said when.......

PS For anyone feeling deprived of Heinz Baked Beanz, The Trading Post now has a monthly drop off in Le Dorat for that and other British fodder.

PPS Anyone have a source for garden tools? M Bricolage has everything new of course, presumably hand crafted and gold edged, with handles of exotic wood

Peter, we are nearish neighbours, in Journet!
Well, for the small amount of time we're in France - arriving 4th June. We have a Labrador too - look out for us!
There is a good second hand/recycle place at Mailhac sur Benaize near Ste Sulpice les Feuilles where you can find similar to La Chinetterie (ADECL) prices reasonable. The difference with ADECL is that it is also a Depot/Vente where the prices are put down by the sellers on a lot of the products and the other stuff is donated/recuperated goods that are priced inhouse so there can be vast differences and values.
