Hi all,

does anyone has recommandations for an eye clinic or Optometrist / ophthalmologist within a 50 km radius around Monty with a decent wait time... i was told not before end December, is this a "normal" wait time in France ?..how can this be possible  ?

Thanks
Mike
Hi Mike,
I don't have any recommendations, I'm afraid, but long waits for ophthalmic appointments seem to be normal in France. There is a reform of the payment system for dentistry and ophthalmology which may improve things but it's unlikely to bear much fruit for a year or two.
It may be worth going to your local doctor and complain about whatever aspect of your vision is worrying you. I suspect a referral from a doctor may speed the process.

Good luck,
Brian

Thanks Brian,

no emergency !   I need to have my eyes checked and probably new glasses ; i'll take the opportunity of my next trip homebound mid August to pay a visit to my "usual" ophthalmologist in Smyrna GA, that might be more expensive but way faster !

Mike
I know some opticians can be persuaded to do a basic eye test to decide on lens requirements and that can be done pretty quickly. However, they won't do a full eye check (including looking for possible problems including retina, macular degeneration, diabetes, general health) as they can only be done by ophthalmologistes.

For complicated reasons I still go back to the UK for my eye exams. It's a shame the USA is that bit further to go...
Sadly agree with you guys.

It is far easier and quicker to get out of France for a proper eye test.

I always go back to Angleterre for my annual check.

I remember trying to book an appointment with the opthalmist in Montmorillon some years ago only to be told the wait was at least 18 months. Doh

He then retired a year later leaving just one opthalmist between Poitiers and Limoges. Angry
