Around Montmorillon

A passing youth told me the other day that the Mairie in Montmorillon is closing in the near future.

He said it was going to the "Old Guildhall" if I understood him correctly.

As he had spots and one of those fuzzy attempts at growing a beard I wasn't sure if he had been on the Jamaican Woodbines  nono or I had got the wrong end of the stick.

Any truth in this folks?

And, if he proves to be correct, where is the Old Guildhall?  Or something like that. Doh
I believe the Old Guild Hall is the building in Place du Maréchal Leclerc that contains the tourist office. I've heard nothing about an impending move but it takes a while for the news to reach the more outlying regions.
Jamaican Woodbines in Monty, I don't believe it !!!

'fraid so.  The young folk round here seem to be happily puffing away on the stuff from dawn to dawn.  Our next door neighbour and his young chums can't enjoy a balmy evening without enveloping us in a cloud of the stuff.

In the meantime - someone (not the Jamaican Woodbine man) told me the old Guildhall is the building on the banks of the Gartempe sometimes known as the old Bishops Palace and other times the Old Court.

If true, it's the big medieval building almost opposite the Roman de Saveurs eatery. Immaculate garden with a turreted building at the end. Dovecote perhaps?

I'll have to find a French person in the know about this possible Mairie move.

Or....I've been led up the (immaculate) garden path by a spaced-out youth. Whistle
Oh, I thought that building was the one that's recently been restored and is now for rent on Airbnb?!

(Sorry, this link probably doesn't work !)

Maybe I'm getting my medievale building mixed up...
The link worked perfectly Smile
That building looks lovely.
I think it used to be the old masonic lodge - check out some of the symbols in the decoration if you're passing

Thanks Brian - I'm sure last time I tried to put a link it failed, now all I need to do is work out the uploading of a picture and I'll be fully forum conversant!
Thanks Clubby.

That's exactly the building I was thinking of.  And got it horribly wrong.  Ho hum... Whistle

Nice looking place though.
