From July of this year the speed limit on departmental roads wil drop from 90 km/h to 80 km/h.

No one seems sure at the moment if this is a trial run by the government to see how it works or if it becomes permanent from July.

Massive objection from our French chums with an opinion poll showing more than six out of ten people opposed to the change and 83% believing it another money-making exercise in raking in more speeding fines. Thumbsdown

You have been warned. wave
I have read they are going ahead with it even though there has been a lot of opposition.

Another little red dot Mrs needs to put on the speedo. We do have Kms on the speedo but Miles are the biggest ones so unless you really concentrate you can't see the Kms very well. After getting fined twice for being 3km over the speed limit Mrs Fred painted little red dots and now I no longer get fined. Big Grin

One advantage about the 80Km it will save a little on diesel, and I only ever go as far as Poitiers a few times a year and you can always make up a good bit of time at the Fleuré bypass.
One of the things I really like about French roads is that 90kph speed limit - which is the speed to which truck drivers are limited. I suspect a drop to 80 will be ignored by the majority of truck drivers (as they are more likely to be kept informed about fixed and mobile speed traps) with the result that law abiding car drivers will end up being tailgated by trucks.

I wonder if the new limit will last?

Spot on with your first observation.

As for the question of how long the new limit will last I reckon approx three months. Whistle

The French don't tend to do slow especially on decent roads.
