Given the recent cold spell, I burned rather more wood than I planned and was in urgent need of some more. As you probably know, finding good wood this late in the burning season is difficult, but I phoned the chap who delivered our last load 18 months ago and he said he had some 2 year old wood he could deliver.

He is based in Sillars but delivers pretty much anywhere - we're in Adriers and that was no problem.

He turned up with 6 stere exactly when he said he would. The wood was 65 €/stere so not cheap but it is very good quality.

In case anyone is in need of a reliable supplier of quality firewood, give him a call. Jean-Marc Delaveau (dad) on 06 85 20 05 87 or Victor (son) on 06 87 30 32 50. They also have email - [email protected] and have always tried to me within a few hours.

I hope this is of use to someone.

Brian
Will keep a note of that for future reference, thanks.
Thanks for that Big Boy.

Name and number added to my already growing list of wood suppliers. Thumb

Another good supplier of really good, aged wood at any time of the year is Jacky Dumas BUT he ain't cheap.

A cord of excellent oak and ash two years ago cost about €220 but delivery is in that price and I asked for the wood to be cut to 33 centimetres.  Sadly, they don't stack for you and my back is not getting any younger.

Jacky Dumas, "La Briqueterie" Route de Lathus, Montmorillon on 05 49 91 12 14.  Just behind the southern industrial estate on the road to Lathus out of Montmorillon.

As a completely useless bit of info he also does coal, anthracite, wines, bieres, spirits, heating oil and - would ya believe it - ice.  Summer only for the ice which is a shame as Madame Admiral needs it all year round for her breakfast vodka, lime and soda..... Whistle
Hi BHouse,

Yes, we've just discovered Delaveau Père & Fils via their bags of kindling sold in Point Vert in M'llon. Wonderful to know they deliver as we wish to use them for firewood next season. Here's a question: do they stack the wood? We always help our suppliers when they arrive but would be nice to know that we wouldn't have to stack it ourselves - we're getting old(er ;-)

Thanks again to the ever-resourceful BHouse

I don't know whether or not they stack, but they do have a facility to order online. I've found that if you phone them you can sometimes negotiate a bit of a discount.

Link not working Brian.
Brian, when they delivered it to your home, did they stack it for you? Or did they just leave it for you to do on your own? Trying to work out if they will be what we need.

Many thanks,
Pastelpainter
Delaveau just emptied it out of a tipper lorry into a big pile - but I had not asked for stacking. If you phone or email Victor who has some English (06 87 30 32 50). He'll be able to tell you if they can stack. Bon chance!

Thanks, BHouse, for the 'heads-up'.
All best,
