If you are a low earner and have been benefiting from tarif de première nécessité (TPN) or tarif spécial de solidarité  (TSS) for Electricity or Gas discounts you will be switched over to Le chèque énergie on January 1st 2018. So instead of getting a monthly discount on your electricity or gas bill you will be getting a one off cheque in the Winter to help with your heating bills.

The cheque will be between 48€ and €227 and you need to pass it on to your Electric or Gas supplier before 31st of March 2018. The amount is based on your income and number of people living in the house.

The TPN was a maximum of €140 per year and the TSS was a maximum of €185 per year, which were spread over your monthly bills, so now instead of getting a discount spread over the year you will get it when you need it most, in the winter.

*If you do benefit from TPN or TSS you don't need to do anything and you will be changed over automatically.
