Is there a English Speaking person at the Tresoir here in Montmorillon?
Never had to visit them before and wondered if I will be able to get though with My very basic French?
Thank you.
The staff there are usually very friendly, and I have often heard them assisting some very basic French speakers. Is what you need complicated?
Not very difficult
I will pop in and see how I go on!
Wish there was a English help line as there is with EDF!
Thank you
I`m going to Montmorillon this afternoon, if that`s any use??
Well I went to the Tresor to pay a bill that I really wanted explaining, why it was so much?
The reception lady on the desk with the Look of thunder as soon as she knew you were English.... eek  Could she smile I wondered? Or was that not the her way of welcoming people? Bonjour

Went to see the guy on the payment desk, I smiled and said my French was not excellent but I can get through "if he would speak slowly" he spoke so fast, I did ask him to slow down, but !  Wall
I ended up paying the full amount, even though I know it should not have been so much.  Sad

The thing I did notice while waiting to be served.....not One Single Notice in English?
How many English use, live in the area that have to use that office!

Thank goodness I do not have to use them very often.

Did think to myself, back at our holiday home in the UK every official office you visit,
Notices are in every language you could think of and if you cannot speak English they will get someone who can speak your language . And you do get a smile of encouragement.

Oh well and now they want all the international banks to move to Paris!  Don't make me laugh. eek
They are a happy bunch in there. Big Grin

They do have a person that speaks English, but you have to push them hard and may wait a long time. We have found you have to stand your ground and refuse to move till they get someone to help. Or push for an appointment in one of the little rooms to the right and tell the receptionist it's important you speak to someone. Once in there you will usually find they are more helpful away from their workmates. Wink

They do have 1 day a year for English when it's time to fill in your tax forms so they do have someone, but like I say they are a happy bunch.

Thank you Fred
I will remember that for my next visit.
Rules Taxe fonciere will be next ! Because that's never right
Thanks for those calming words Fred. Thumb

Whenever I have been in there I have to take Madame Admiral along simply because she will drag me out before I cause any damage to the pinch-faced, bean-counting hag I invariably get lumbered with.

Issie, you have to remember it takes a certain type of person to work in a tax office.  That's all I'm saying. Whistle

I've just returned from the Tresoir Publique and found it an enjoyable experience!  We have never had any problems of difficulty there even when I went in to pay a house tax bill way after the due date a year or so back.  My French is basic but have always blundered through and only ever met with help from them.  What am I doing wrong?

We had to venture upstairs there today for the first time to get a VAT/TVA free certificate (Quitus fiscsal) for importing the car.  We were seen by Christine Fretille and she was great.  She spoke very slowly and in very basic French without us needing to ask.  What could have been a stressful time was really easy.
