Around Montmorillon

Now, this might sound like a strange request but we're after some regular updates on how much the grass has grown!
Yes, we're talking about a lawn, patch of grass, or field.
We don't live in France but make regular trips over to maintain our property. We've got a new baby and it's not so easy for us to get over this year for our usual trips, so we're employing someone to come and cut our field a few times a year. It's quite costly so we really want it done when it needs doing and when there's been a bit of a growth spurt!

If you notice your grass needs cutting or you get the mower out can you let us know please (if you remember).

Ours could do with a trim now, but it's too wet.

I could post when I cut mine but I don't think it would help much as sometimes I cut it every week and sometimes it doesn't need cutting for a couple of months.

Obviously you don't want to be paying someone to keep it down for use but more for keeping it maintained.  It also depends on what he will be cutting it with, if it's a lawnmower then you don't want to let it get too long. But if he has a field cutter it may only need a couple of cuts a year.

As you're not going to be using it this year I would tell him to cut it when the farmers are cutting the fields for hay. (That is as long as he has a field cutter and not a lawnmower)

It's done with a field cutter so does only need a couple of cuts a year.

We have a fantastic ancient Hayter mower which can cut quite long grass but we just don't have the time to do it ourselves.

Good suggestion Fred - maybe someone could then tell me when the farmers are cutting for hay?

Last year we got stung having the field cut when it didn't need doing so we're after some independent, third party advice on this!

Unless anyone else has a better suggestion I can make a note to post a photo of a field near us at the beginning of each month if it would help? But I wouldn't be able to cut it for you.

Yep,we`re one tree down, and the ridge of the barn lies in the adjacent field, with several slates off. Looking on the bright side, the slates missed two cars by a matter of inches !

Clubby here's a couple of pictures.

My neighbours garden hasn't been cut though he does have a couple of chickens.



And this is a patch I haven't got around to strimming yet in our garden.

To the casual browser, this thread looks like the most boring thing since watching paint dry (there's one for future discussion).
To us, still holed up in the UK and wondering if we will ever get the renovations finished so we can move 'France side', this thread is a lifeline and a money saver. Thank you Fred for your informative and pictorial grassy updates. Very much appreciated.
