just retired & part time consultant (nuclear industry) , still travelling abroad, I just landed in Montmorillon country coming from Atlanta GA, for a 6 months stay (so far but may extend ) and got sick at arrival ! I'm looking for any information about english speaking places (even though i speak pretty good french), and trying to get through the french administration (social security..residence permit,  driving licence). Helpful forum and site !
Hi Michael can't help with your question, but just dropped by to say Hi and Bonjour
Jim
Hi Michael, and welcome ! We`ve been here 6 years now, so have successfully managed our way through most things!
The Bar at Thiat does ecxellent fish and chips on Fridays and Mondays.......and decent beer. Book in advance....tel 0555 473445.(about 20 mins max from Montmorillon)
Are you renting in Montmorillon ?

Al and Alison
Thanks Jlm, Al and Alison for your quick posts.

I am in a rented flat in Lussac and depending on my sweetie wishes will look for a place to settle.

Thanks also for the bar address.. certainly a place i'll show up soon
Mike
Hi! Is that Lussac les Chateaux, or Lussac le Eglises?( both about 15 mins from Montmorillon, but one to the East, the other to the West).
This area is a lovely place to live........I`m sure you`ll be tempted.
Regards, Alison
Hello Michael Welcome to Around Montmorillon.  wave

Depending on what sort of English speaking places you are looking for, most Government places usually have someone who can help. (They do tend to like you to try your French, but once they realise you're getting stuck they will help or find someone who can)

Regards.

Fred.
I am talking Lussac les Châteaux. .my french was good enough to survive in Gabon and Congo when i was stationned there (oil&gas worker ) and being accepted on the Civaux NPP plant as consultant i still have issues with grammar but vocabulary is OK. Having a few guys around speaking proper English (funny for a south Georgia guy! ) after a week surrounded by froggies i what I am looking for. .and obviously..day to day issues :doctor...(OK now ! ),  paperwork for the prefecture. .. I ' ll scroll  through the forum.  I am sure I'll find  most of the answers

Hello Michael

We have just brought an old mill not far from lussac in mazerolles. The farmer on our site has a nice bungalow that may suit you if you are looking to rent close to lussac.?
Welcome to the forum !

Welcome, Jim, from this D*** Yankee !

Great to have yet another American join us in the general area - holy mackerel,  now we are four!

All best to you in your stay and perhaps get together at some point. We live in Adriers which is the other side of Montmorillon.

If you need professional advice re residency etc. there are a
couple of people who may be able to help you. Let me know and I'll get their details.

Bon week-end,
