As promised here is the phone number (rather belatedly so with apologies)  for ophthalmologist reception at M M hospital 05 49 83 60 65
I imagine its only worth ringing on Wednesdays.
Despite being told they would write in a week or two with details of appointment, after a month still not heard anything. so will have to explore other avenues

Thank you Huw,

I think Mrs Fred has given up with Montmorillon. She has tried phoning and going in on the Wednesday only to be told come back in September. One time she went in and spoke to the young lady only to be told she didn't have her appointment diary with her. Wall

Do let us know what else you find, as Mrs Fred still hasn't found a solution.
Hello everyone,

Purely by accident recently, we came upon a place called 'Point Vision' within Poitiers proper. They are a full-service eye clinic, a chain in fact, so yes it is private. We walked in and made appointments for wilthin three weeks.

The address is: Point Vision, 68 Rue Jean Jaures, 86000 Poitiers
Phone: 05 86 16 10 20
email: [email protected]

Perhaps this will be helpful to those seeking proper eye exams and not just a quick check at the opticians.

Will report back on our experience.

Best to all,
Pastelpainter
Pleased to hear you got sorted, unfortunately that wouldn't help Mrs Fred as she need somewhere that accepts Carte Vitale.

I've put this post in this thread to keep it all together and make it easier for others to find.
Chatting to my doc about this problem - it happened to me a few years back in Monty and was told the waiting list was at least at 12 months - he says that if you can get a letter of referral from your GP you will move up the queue much quicker.  But I got the feeling any eye problem had to be quite bad/serious to warrant a letter.

Probably information of no use whatsoever folks but it might be worth a chat with your GP to see if there's anything that can be done to speed up appointments.

Bonne chance. wave

Mrs Fred did get a referral originally but now needs her check up as she needs glasses for driving. The health care in France is excellent, but they obviously don't take eye sight so serious. Having said that I had mine checked whilst I was in hospital as a precautionary measure.

I have an appointment at Poitiers hospital next week so she is going to ask the eye department whilst we are up there.
