Do you own a Chateau ours went up €23 and it's now just under €250 and that's for two properties.

OMG...........certainly a nice house, but by no means a chateau!! Tax fociere up from 900 euros from last year to over 1300 euros this year. Count your rise MOST fortunate!

Why the massive difference in price rises if you both live there I wonder? I understand it's more expensive for those of us not living in France, but then it's cheaper if you do live there, but the massive price increase there is worrying for you Ali.

I don't know why Jane, but I'll have a guess.

I think it's based on where the property is located and they estimate what the rental income would be if rented out. Then they also take into account the age, condition and size of the property. *I don't fully understand how they arrive at the figure, and it would be interesting if others gave an idea of what they pay and the size/condition of their property.

We have two places liable to Taxe Foncière.

#1 A habitable old stone house around 100 Sq Mt living space and 1000 Sq Mt of garden

#2 A large old terrace of houses with outbuildings and large barn all in disrepair (so uninhabitable and couldn't be rented out) on 2000 Sq Mt of land.

For me a tax bill of around €250 is acceptable. Yes it has gone up but only by €23 a year so not much of a problem to cope with.

Also I was once told not to claim for renovation work from the various schemes they have as it will put your rentable value up. I don't know how true that information is, as we have never claimed anything for renovation as we do our own work.

For us it was 479 euros, I think, for the main house, with a small house joined to it. Not a great deal of land, maybe 180sq m- 250sqm, I'm not that good at guessing. There are outbuildings and sheds on the land also. 
Any idea when the habitation bill comes in btw? I believe this will be approximately the same price of the fonciere. Is that correct?

It's based on the number of people living in the property at 1st Jan + TV licence.

It will be on it's way soon and I think payable by mid Novemeber.

If I remember rightly the TV licence is around €130. We have to pay that, but I don't know about the rest as we don't pay any because we are under the income threshold.

We don't have tv set up over there, as yet. Just took dvd's over, so we'll probably get a discount for that. I wonder of it's any less as it's just a holiday home for now, so we're hardly there. Probably not, but you never know.

Hello Jane, as far as I know you will still have to pay it. They will say that you were able to live in it, so even though you just use it as a holiday home to them it was possible for you to live in it.

As for TV payment. I think you have to opt out of paying it, so it will probably be on your bill until you go in and sign a deceleration that you don't have a tv.
