Has anyone got any good top soil going spare?

I want it for vegetable growing so none of the local Clay thank you, I have plenty of that. Big Grin

Thank you.
Now that's an interesting question.
I was speaking to a local farmer a few weeks ago.  He told me that for decades, most French farmers have been encouraged to use synthetic fertilisers - above all other methods - when it comes to improving crop yields.

A result is that drainage has been largely neglected and much of the topsoil has been washed away, leaving infertile clay that has to be dosed with synthetic fertilisers in order to grow anything.  A result is that good topsoil is hard to find.

This could all be wrong as the conversation was in French and I am FAR from fluent!

However,  as our land has been neglected for 50 years plus,  we have a good layer of topsoil.

If you can get a shovel-equipped working party together you'd be very welcome to several metres carré...

I think your local farmer has a good point.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm now let me think. Do I want to hump a couple of trailer loads of top soil from your garden into my trailer ? I'm thinking it's probably got turf on top that would need skimming off first. Do I know a shovel-equipped working party ? It's not looking good.

I appreciate the offer Brian, but humping it off at the other end is going to give me enough exercise. I was rather hoping someone was having some work done or had a heap to get rid of and there was still a loader on site that could chuck it in for me.

30 Years ago I would have taken you up on the offer, but although it sounds ideal for what I want I think I will have to decline as I don't think I'm up to it.  Confused
Oh well. I thought I'd offer. 30 years ago I'd have dug it out for you but these days there are too many times to learn, too many knives to sharpen. I'll ask André (the farmer) and see if he has any suggestions.

Don't forget to much wine to be drank and to much cheese to be chomped. Smile
