I cant help with professional advice, but if you go to https://www.degrouptest.com/

They throw ads at you but it will show what is available, if you don't have a phone number use one of your nearest neighbour.

It only needs a phone number to give you your options, you can put the address and email in if you want but you may get publicity and uncheck the little box's if you don't want more information.
Hello Rosie

I hope you don't mind ...you mentioned a mill and we are in the process of buying one in the area we are in France next week so thought I would say hello Big Grin cari x
Hi thanks Fred as always for your great advice!
Will give it a go, we have found a temporary option
but still something more permanent down track!

Hi also Cari! Welcome!
We love our Mill cottage and have learned a lot
since moving here about repairs to the race
and managing the weir. Huw also plans to
rebuild the mill wheel. If we can help with
any info give us a shout!
Warm wishes
Rosie and Huw

Dear Cari
Congrats! It sounds wonderful! You are about
20 mins from our mill cottage in Brigueil Le Chantre
and ten minutes from our little house in
Montmorillon. Our plan to also generate
electricity! Stay in touch, there is a lot of info
re mills etc. Which river are you on?
Will you live here permanently?
Good luck with everything
Warm regards
Rosie and Huw
Thank you both that's really lovely of you Blush

We will be out to the mill from Sunday, so will definitely have plenty of questions to think about I'm sure
If we could ask you that will be brilliant.... and yes our mill race leaks too....
If Your cottage is not too far away from us, then perhaps we could grab a coffee (if your not too busy)
but please don't feel obligated ...on line is great too! No pressure you have been most kind.

Cari and Simon.
Just a follow up on the wifi issue.
We are now using a wifi hotspot with 3G sim (BBox nomad with Bouyguestelecom 80euros plus 6GBmonth for 14.95) our initial (different ( TPLINK wifi modem worked fine in montmorillon but not at the mill - despite using the same sim card - seems to be a mystery problem that has no explanation!.
Anyhow 3G wifi seems a quite workable option for now - seems that our nearest neighbour is getting< 3Gb download speed on ADSL so not promising for us as we are further from the exchange so doesnt look like worth the extra cash and wait ofr Mairee approval, france telecom and new poles!. Hoping 4G will roll out before too long which should give us quite adequate service as the mobile signal good.
Considered satellite however people seem to have very mixed experiences with its usability.
Huw
Internet by satellite is a viable option. It is entirely stand alone and dies not need any 'traditional' telephone connection.
It can be installed by a contractor, but is very easy to self- install, needing a satellite dish, calling and control box. Some vendors sell complete kits. I don't have a specific recommendation but a quick search will reveal many suppliers.

Good luck with the Mill. It sounds like a splendid project.
Brian
Thanks Brian - I guess our main concern with satellite is that there seems to be very mixed reviews around regarding consistency of speed which seems to be very variable with some reports suggesting it often becomes almost unusable in evenings or weekends, when the bandwidth is quickly gobbled up by multiple users. There doesn't seem to be any guarentee of service, other than pay your money and hope for the best!
Would love to hear experience with particular providers or contracts etc. satellite certainly seems more attractive from an installation point of view compared with getting 2 phone poles and line install costs (as well as getting decent ADSL2+ speed as I suspect not much chance of fibre optic!) the 3G speed is not bad for price vs availability and at least we have that for now.
